I would say sportsman or mod truck.
Sweet thanks! what upgrades do you reccomend I do to make it more competitive? Also, is the velenion system legal?
Mod truck
Since its open yes
What surface is the track?
Slash 2wd, Slash 4x4, 30th digger, Rustler VXL
According to the rules in the link you posted you are legal in mod truck and sportsman classes. The first thing to do to be more competitive is to get the right tires. Check what tires the fast pros are running in mod truck, and also pay attention to how they prep those tires. Get those tires and run in sportsman class to start. There are many improvements that can be made to a rusty to get better lap times, but its hard to make a rusty competitive in the mod truck class. I was looking for some pics or vids of the track to get some more ideas to help you, but they dont seem to post any?
A lipo battery will give you more "punch" when accelerating, although the vxl motor is pretty powerful and may be a handful on some dirt tracks.
You did not ask for durability upgrades, but I will suggest an rpm stampede ft bumper, and aluminum castor blocks. Replace anything else that breaks with rpm parts if available for durability...

If you plan to get real competive i would change shocks, get a racing esc and motor, lcg chassis,tires,lipo,2.4ghz radio, and learn to tune it!I race my stampede and still am learning!
How about putting a 17.5 motor in it to run in 3 classes? You might be more competitive (3 chances to win) and you'll stay busy instead of sitting around waiting for your class to come back around. But you'll need a couple more lipo's to run that many races in a row. If it's a small track I'd gear down to 16/83 or 18/83 because you'll need fast acceleration but not top speed.
My Black & Blue Rally is faster than your color...
oh i forgot.......make it as light as possiable!
Thanks everyone for the advice! The track is indoor clay. What tires should I get?
Whatever tires the fast guys at the track are running. Every track is different, and its hard for us to tell you being that we dont run on that surface...
LETS GO PENS!!!!
Ok, thanks anyways.![]()
I asked 1 guy from one of my local tracks forums. The track is hard packed damp smooth clay. Most guys run hot bodies megabites in pink compound for the stadium truck class.
LETS GO PENS!!!!
You will also want to use nitro rustler or slash rear arms to get some toe-in in the rear it will help you with traction. Ditto on saving weight, maybe check out the ultimate rustler to get some ideas on where you can trim weight off.
