Common Parts to break on Traxxas Summit

hey guys i have just recently gotten a new traxxas summit and i am wanting to put together a tool kit for it so i can fix on the run. are there any common parts to break that i should put on my list for my tool kit? replies would be great thanks

The only thing i have broken so far on mine was the front bumper mounting loop. Summits in stock form don't go fast enough to break anything, they just get scratched up from rolling back down the hills you couldn't quite get to the top of hahaha

i would be an extra set of steering push rods, my son hit something and bent one.

I actually don't use them on my Summit, but I do on my Slash 4x4. On the big trucks (Summit and ERBE) I use a modded T-Maxx brake disk as a slipper disk:

how modded do you need to go? I just bought a pair of HR Double up Slipper kits. Was just about to buy some pads as well.

You need to ream out ever so slightly every other pair of holes around the circumference - or take an extra minute and do every hole.This allows the holes to fit on the small bumps/pins on the plate that usually hold the pads. BUT, the brake disk is thicker than the pads and may push the spur gear far enough out to contact the gear cover. I usually clearance the inside of cover with a Dremel sanding drum but one could conceivably let the spur cut its own clearancing path in the cover. Would be noisy for a little while.

ah ok, maybe ill just pick up some alum pads instead. i have spur cover clearance issues as it is with Mod1 anyways.

Tires can rip (repair with Super Glue), some people break bumper mounts, and it's always good to have an extra set of suspension arms. I have not broken any of these on my own Summit. My ERBE tells a whole different story.

I also would get your self a set of bearings. And If you want to spend money maybe a micro servo (2065) gear set and drivelines.

I might add a screw set so in the case you do have to work on your summit out in the field and accidently lose one you'll have some spares.

Check eBay chop shops they're fairly reasonable and if you find a set for/from a summit you'll have all you should need.

Stay away from the junk stainless screws, they look cool but they're soft and bend/break

First thing I broke was the rear drive shift, and the front one was on the way out to. This happened about 1 week after I had it. So at least carry a spare rear one. I replaced mine with the traxxas steel ones then I twisted an axle up. So I'd carry some spares of those to.

the summit comes with all the tools you will need to work on the majority of the car, so you dont really need to worry about tools bud

But you will want to invest in a set of hex drivers,trust me you will.
1.5 mm 2.0 mm 2.5 mm covers almost every fastener on the truck

yep, a guy can only use those L-wrenches for so long before you snap.

Set of hex drivers is a must.

5331 & 5332 for the front suspension arms
5653, 5654, 5655 & 5656 for the driveshaft parts. The only other thing I have broke is the output on the rear differential to right rear wheel. I drive it like I stole it so I'm kinda suprised I have not broke more stuff.

Nope. The Summit comes with FULL bearings. Except the motor bushings, (They don't count anyway) every thing on the Summit has bearings. You need to keep spares because some times the seize up with rust.

thanks heaps for the replies i am thinking of getting a drive shaft set, a front and rear a-arm set, and a screw set should do me just fine. maybe some glue in case the tyres come off the rim

Front long travel arms , front a arms and half shaft , and a slipper clutch ive got a new summit and so far this is all that has broke there tough trucks

+1 on the extra tyres, drive shaft, slipper clutch and diff set.

for the toolkit get some bearing grease (you can pack the bearings to give them a longer life and if you run in the wet a lot), motor cleaner (if stock/brushed), spray lube, rubber cement to repair tyres that sometimes get cut from sharp rocks, edges.
