What brushless motors will work?

Hey I have a rustler, with a Titan 12t and xl5 and I know it's brushless ready but what will a good brushless motor under for the rustler where I can still keep the xl 5 but go fast? I am running a 7 cell 3000mah but I am getting a 2s 5000mah 25c lipo soon.

As far as I know if you want a brushless motor you will need a brushless esc to accompany it, and the xl-5 isn't capable. Don't quote me on it though

go with the VXL combo, its a great upgrade from the XL5

like the poster above im all most 100% sure you need a new esc to power a brushless. The VXL velinion system is from my exp a very good set up. runs a little hotter than id like but the plus is its water proof. how ever there are faster and cooler running systems out there like the castle systems. iv noticed on some other forums a lot of people are recommending the hobby wing systems now. and speaking of castle systems i read they are comeing out with a waterproof version of the sidewinder v2 system. how well this will work is unknown. At any rate and at least for now id recommend the velinion if water proof is needed for your use. other than some limatations in the sumertime do to motor temps i love mine. im pleanty happy with the power on a 2s lipo for just gen bashing. so far "knocks on wood" its been reliable other than a sticky button on the esc wich is not a deal breaker just a bit of a hassle. iv been running mine for 2 1/2 years now with zero matanince. i finaly took the motor apart last month and it was mostly still clean in side, the bearings are starting to go though. easy/cheap fix how ever. any way good luck with what ever you do. you will def like brushless. more power and FAR less matanince and much longer motor life.

I heard the castle creations esc are mostly water resistant but they don't say it because of legal reasons and stuff like that

The VXL system (Motor and ESC) work good for the rustler. The VXL motor has a longer shaft on the motor to mount the pinion gear which is great for the rustler.

from what iv read and seen, there just that, "water resistent". they cant take to much exposure to water. kind of like running threw a shallow puddle ect. Other wise there would be no need of people haveing to mod there esc's to make them water proof or for castle to come out with an actul water proof version of the sidewinder and iirc mamba monster max . velinions on the other hand can be submerged in water with no issues " as long as there is no defects ect" as i can fully attest to .i cant count how many times iv used the bath tube or water hose method to clean my rusty vxl lol.

The newest versions of the Mamba Monster and Sidewinder ESCs are waterproof.

YUP, the xl5 will not work with brushless
