    Jato steering servo

    Guys,

I think my steering servo is just about caput. When you turn the wheel lock to lock with no load on the car, holding it in the air, the wheels turn slow and there is a creaking sound. Does this sound like its time to replace the servo?

If so, what servo is recommended for steering? I would think a heavy duty, high torque servo but don't know what would fit in my Jato.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

Check all your steering components before replacing a servo, ie bushings, tie rods etc.

...and if they are all in tact? If in fact it is the servo, what is a good high torque steering servo?

Well I know HI-Tech makes some good servos. One thing you might wanna try first is take the horn off the servo than turn it left to right, if it doesnt squeek it's your suspension not servo.

Hi-Tec HS645MG is probably the most popular upgrade servo you can get. You can ususally find them on Ebay for 20-some dollars. I've used them in several Jatos and have always been happy with them.

Well, I purchased a Hi-Tec HS645MG only to find out that my servo horn is stripped! Any recommendations for a new servo horn? Is anyone using aluminum? What would stand up to the Hi-Tec HS645MG's metal gears?

The splines on Hi-Tec servos are different than the Traxxas (Futaba) servos. You don't really notice it when you put the original horn on the new servo but they are different. You need one of these kits (the horns in this kit are marked for the type of servo you are using).

Sounds like you stripped the gears, you can replace them for cheap.

Be careful buying servo's on eBay, there is a lot of fake $2 Chinese ones, with other brands stickers on em, selling em at $10. They're terrible.
