so i got my merv today and i am liking it a lot. I am so happy i got the blue and black instead of the red and black. My brother has a 1/16 summit and i thought the merv would be quite smaller but they are actually quite similar. So my goal for this truck is a vehicle capable of long trial rides on smooth surfaces, but still be able to get of the dirt trail and do some jumps. In the spring when the snow is gone i will do a lot of racing around our home made track.

my upgrades so far that i have are
pro-line dirt hawgs on desperados
one 2500mah spc lipo, still have to order the other one.


my list is very short i need other ideas for upgrades, but i do not want to spend a whole lot of money. I have been thinking about making a custom front bumper because the stock one gets real ugly when the chrome chips off. i know the diffs tend to be a problem with this truck so i am going to order some diff shims and more diff oil. i will post up some pics soon. If anybody has suggestions for upgrades for trail driving that would be helpful.

I pulled off the door and used a razor blade to cut off that whole rear area where the wires come out.

Looks like your off to a good start. If you do a lot of bashing I would look into a 3 piece t-bone skid plate set.

I recommend better servo, I have hs 85mg+ rpm arms, aluminum toe links and pushrod
Start with that, and upgrade some parts as you see their breaks
here is a picture of my merv, I love it. I dye my chassis, I really like it

does anybody know how much run time to expect with two 2500mah lipo batteries at speeds under 20mph?

Look in my battery thread. The 2500 are on top of my merv batteries no bigger than my boost

most likely but as long as you're running lipo, that shouldnt be a problem

i have heard that the stock motor is good but the esc is ok, what would be a better esc

I just installed the MMP in mine yesterday. Seems to have a LOT more power and stays much cooler. Of course, I wasn't able to run it outside as there's TONS of snow outside right now, the local indoor off road track is "closed" and I'm not trying to destroy my new rig. But a few carpet runs really heated up the old ESC compared to the MMP.

the snow melted enough for me to finally drive out side, it was like a giant ice rink because it was ice on top of the snow

so i went to the my lhs and bought some 3000wt diff oil because i thought it was 30,000 will it still work

i think that running this oil weight in your diffs, would be like having almost nothing in it!

quite a few, not sure exactly how many but you don't use a whole lot on these 1/16 diffs.

ok thanks, next week at my lhs they are supposed to have some carbon fiber washers for shimming the diff

i know it will not be any better it will just be cheaper because i do not have to pay shipping for such a small piece. By the way is it normal for the merv not to roll easily when not plugged in, is that just the motor magnets, because when i turn it on it rolls easily

Even if you ride with 30k oil, your actual diff are probably empty... I did mine with 30k front and rear (I will see if I will go for 50k in the front) and both of my diff was mostly empty...

ya i heard they were mostly empty stock. Another question i have been looking at upgrading my motor are their any quality motors that would hook up to the stock esc because i want to keep it waterproof.

The stock esc is the weak point more than the motor!
It will roll a bit easy the motor magnets are not that strong you should see my neu motor now that has strong motors

i bet the nue does, so if you get a new esc you can unlock the potential on this motor? Are there any water proof alternatives

The stock motor is pretty stout... put anything stronger on the stock ESC and it will fry.
