    Leopard merv

No, not a leopard colored body. A leopard motor. I had the big block 5700 but it was too top heavy and just heavy all together. After looking around I decided on a leopard 2845 4420kv. It has a 4mm shaft so I drilled out my pinions with a 4mm drill bit. Had to grind the motor shaft a hair because it was too long. But other than that, it fits! Made a few passes on the street and the power and speed is comparable with the 5700. Temps were good too. Under 100. will get better test results tomorrow and a GPS verified MPH. So far I'm very pleased!

Nice to know. I bought exactly the same for use in a boat. If it doesn't work there, I can still put it in one of my cars.
    Very affordable motor.

How did the drill job work?
Just a little bit off would mean trouble

Its not extremely perfect but it's not bad at all. Can't tell when checking gear mesh. Feels the same all around the gear. I used flat pliers and a drill press

I still have to build it into the boat, but my plan is to sand the motor shaft down to 3mm...

That was option 2 if drilling the pinions didn't work out.

You could actually turn the motor over under power as you sand it

OK test results are in. I recommend this motor! Ran it on 2s. It launches like a rocket. Winds out too fast. I need a smaller spur gear. The pinion is around 26t. Top speed was 34mph and Max temp was about 115 will order more gearing options and update later

I think instead of gearing up I will just do like everyone else and get bigger tires like the dirthawgs

I've been contemplating that chassis. Do you run the stock merv body with it? Good looking truck you have there

Thanks yes I run the stock body but you need to dremel the sides off with a cutoff wheel, otherwise the body will stick out. Its a wide chassis.

Not sure. I never ran the stock one. But it is 4 pole and it has 420 more kv so I would say it should have better performance. I love it but if you like driving in water I wouldn't get it because both ends have holes for cooling.

How does the leopard motor compare to the stock motor in size?

One day. For now the internal setting mode suits my needs.

And size seems to be about the same as stock from what I remember

It has the same diameter, but is a bit shorter.

That's pretty good considering the hpi are a little wide for the dirt hawgs!

I'm loving it. Lots of space. I bought the revo with the chassis so I can't really compare to the stock one. You need to trim the sides though.
