    Ultra Slashipede

I have a full-tilt, scratchbuilt 1/8th-scale Slash I call Slash8, and it's got hundreds of hours of research and fabrication into it. But after seeing the thread by snicklefritz and bronco bobby with their stretched stock Slashes, I thought... that looks like fun. So I dug into the parts bin (and sacrificed my conventional Pede build) to create something new.

First, I combined the stock rear end with an STRC kit...

...along with a couple of custom plates I built to attach the chassis to the shock tower. Throw in an MMP and a Tacon 4074 2000kv, mount the SC8 shell and some massive balloon tires from an AE MGT... and voila.

Ultra Slashipede. It's fun as all get out.

DR I, nice work again... Maxx axles? Is that a custom plate added to the gearbox? Looks factory.

Yeah, that was a piece I made to give the RPM bumper mount something to attach to. On this truck, I'm using a cut-off piece of a busted ProLine rear skid, so I'll need to make a new aluminum piece to give the big SC8 bumper a little more support. And yes, those are MAXX axles massaged to fit on a Magnum gearbox. Hundreds of packs through them, and the pin holes haven't yet started to show signs of wear.

When I was running truggy tires on my monster vette build, I was going through bent ft axles often. It was a necessary evil, but worth it. Are you experiencing the same?

I snapped one when I was doing the video, but that's it-- actually the only part I've broken on the truck since I finished it. Been lucky so far, considering how much leverage those hex adapters are putting against the sides of the front bearings. I expect to blow front bearings out pretty regularly with these tires mounted.

That said, I'm really tempted to throw 3S in there and see what breaks first.

They are not bending regularly? I never had a problem with the bearings at all just bending axles...

I seldom bend axles on any of my trucks-- they just break altogether, allowing one or more wheels to go rolling away free. Only broken one on this truck, and it, like most builds here, was assembled almost entirely out of used parts. The T-Maxx rear stubs are the only parts bought specifically for this build.

It's around 9lbs, mostly due to the tires and body-- if I remember right, the 4 wheel/tire combos come out to around 2lbs, and the body is about a pound and a quarter, so the truck itself is pretty light.

Custom builds are always cool, but you have taken those trucks to awesome level!!!

Seems like the black one needs some weight in the front.
