I swapped in some Energizer batteries instead of my usual Duracell's and seem to have lost a lot of range. Is this typical? Are some batteries a lot better than others for this?

I haven't noticed a difference...
Keep in mind that the radio does not actually use all the voltage that is available from the 4 or 8 batteries.. there is a voltage regulator within that steps down the voltage to 5v -- at least I think it is 5v.Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

Brand new batteries. The reciever for my gps and car were both touching each other. Maybe that wasn't helping things.
