Won't work. You need a different ESC like a Mamba Max or some other brand that can handle it. Then there is tons of fun to be had lol.

VXL has over voltage protection it wont even arm if you plug in 4s

The vxl gets hot enough just running on 3s. I wouldn't do it. I would get the proper esc and motor for 4s. It's a blast when you do, I hope you have a functionally wheelie bar!

too fast and you might not have a rustler left if you blow a tire out at above 70mph

They're right, on taking the rustler over 70. If you know you're going to, you'd better get some tires made for it. Regular traxxas tires, except for the XO-1 and funny car tires, aren't.

Also, a mamba monster setup on 4s might not give you enough motor rpm's to reach 100. You may have to go 6s.

No. No part of the vxl system will work with 4s batteries

It wont grenade it simply will not arm so it will never have a chance to grenade.

I saw a video on YouTube were someone took a vxl motor and an aftermarket esc and ran that in 4s. He say it only lasted 3 runs before the motor gave up. He had to gear waaaaaaayyy down and even then it still ran hot.

I used 4s on my. Tacon 3700kv With my xerun 80amp geared 17/58 With. Some esc adjustments its doing ok no heat issues but You have to be smart With. The throttle. I don't have to use much and its fast the only reason I used 4s is my 3s died after 3 good years service and the 4s was a extra I had from my emaxx

You can run the motor on 4s but you'll need a MMP or MMM, or something similar to power it. You can run the Rusty on 4s, 5s, or 6s but you'll have to work up to it slowly and roll on the power in a long speed run with many upgraded parts. The guys who are successful at it have to put in a lot of work to do it.

We're going to run my brothers bandit (basically its a rustler now) tonight with 4s with an hpi scream setup from a savage flux.
He has it geared 25/30 using 2 pinions.
