Single or Double?

Servo. Are people running 1 or 2 servo's? Is there any benefit to running a single servo over a double? What are people's experiences?

Running 1 servo eliminates the chance that 2 servos become un-centered to each other, and fight each other leading to early failures.
I would lean towards the common theme is run the 2 stockers till 1 fails then replace them both with a single better servo (300oz.tq) and keep a 2075 for spares

i run dual 2075s. they are waterproof, have not died yet and have enough power, barely, to turn 40 series trenchers. when they die ill probably swap in dual 300+ oz/in servos just for that much more overkill.

I run single servo in all my trucks...I'll never go back to dual.

If you have stock tires, dual stockers are fine.
Anything more, bigger duals are better.

Best option is always a faster, single servo with 300+ oz. Remember speed is important too.

A single servo is easier. Less moving parts.
Its also more durable as there is no chance the servos will be fighting each other. The better quality the servo, the more in sync they need to be.

There are not many strong water proof servos out there yet, but it is VERY easy to waterproof your own.

This is a 1/5th scale large-size servo with a surprising amount of power available

IDB that is a 1/5 scale servo...........not going to fit....

A single servo is simply a better setup because there are less moving parts. Less moving parts is always better. Especially when they are little tiny electronic parts. IMO, getting a good quality single servo is a better choice than going with a cheap version. The servo is what steers your very fast truck. You want to know its going to work when you want/need it to.

Gotta look at more than the torque and price to pick an appropriate servo. That is a very large servo and is only as cheap as it is because it doesn't therefore need so much miniaturization.

I ran the stockers until the gears stipped out, didnt take all the much time.

Im running a single now, JR Z9100HVT
480oz torque at 7.4V but i run it at 6V so reduce by 10% to 432oz.

What servo's are you all running for singles? Would be more ideal if it was waterproof i know that limits the choice some what. Water resistant may also be an option for me.

I dont run in water so water proof is of no concern personally. Biggest reason I dont is Im a bit picky on keeping my small but still growing fleet immaculate and once you introduce water and dirt it becomes harder to clean. Somehow Ive managed to keep all traxxas. 2x slash 4x4, 1x slash 2wd and 2x ERBE.

hey 87 would you happen to know off the top of your head how many splines the savox servos have? or what servo arm do you use? i bought the one you had suggested and never thought of the arm to get duh on my part

Savox uses a Futaba (same as Traxxas) 25-Tooth spline

I've been running that Savox SA-1230-SG in my Summit for 2 months now without an external BEC...its an awesome servo, and I am running the Savox SA-1231-SG in my eSlayer...I am happy with the Savox servos.

I am using the STRC STP6037S Alum Single Steering Servo Saver Arm and Ofna #10776Alum Servo Arm Horn 25-Tooth on both these builds.

The ERBE's BEC is 5.5V stock. The Summit's BEC is 6.0V stock. I hope the power-hungry Savox works as well with the Mamba Monster.

While those will work, they are also overkill, even for up to 486 oz-in of torque. I've installed the Axial one (first link) and it is nicely massive. I've had no problem with installing three of these Dynamite horns (first 4 entries) and all are still functioning well.

I'll look for one...I bust my external BEC and am now running off the MMM esc. I set to 6V and am running my hitec 7950th off it with no issues...about 3 weeks now...I probably won't put a BEC back on.

You most likely wont have issues out of the Hitech. Ive run Stock, Hitech, Savox, JR and Futaba. The only one that gave me issues with the onboard BEC was the Savox line.

The only mods needed were enlarging the mounting hole on the included plastic horn to accept the 3mm stock screw. I also threw in a HD spring (5344x) too beef up the stock servo saver. Call me crazy, but I didnt feel a metal horn was necessary on this truck.

One of the best budget servos is a Hitec 7954 for $85 off of Amazon. I confirmed with a Hitec rep that purchases off of eBay or Amazon are still covered under warranty.

All 4 horns I mentioned were mounted on Hitec 79xx servos. The plastic horns are not up to the tasks I set for my trucks.
