    3 channel controller?

Does the switch on the side of the traxxas 3 channel controller just turn on/offf the power on the 3rd channel of the recivever? I'm looking to be able to switch on/off led lights from the contoller. I'm talking about the red switch on the side of the contoller here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Traxxas-TQi-...item20cd8e3645

There is power to the receiver all the time. The only thing that is controllable from the remote is the signal.
To turn on lights you will need a Rx switch as well as an open channel to control the switch that will in turn, control the lights.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

So, what does the red switch do then?

So, my led kit plugs into channel 3. If I got an rx switch (not sure what that is yet) then i can use the 3rd channel switch to turn the lights on/off?

Ps, thanks for the help, I'm kind of a newbie to all this

Jimmie is correct, you need a receiver controlled switch, such as this one.

If you look around online you can find them cheaper.
