do what ever it take to get that thing- no matter what, you can't just leave it down there...... get a fishing net and do everything in your power to extend it, whether its buying some metal poles and welding them together, it's worth it

Wait till spring, go with a fishing pole, and fish to the bottom where you thought u dropped it. If you have a GoPro, get the WiFi BacPac and attach that to the line to search for it that way. The BacPac allows you to see what your filming from an Android or iDevice. You'd be suprised at how tough those MERVs are, it wouldn't mind a couple of months at the bottom of a lake. You'll need a new battery, metal parts (screws, bearings, and possibly a motor can), foams, and some stuff to clan it with. DON'T GIVE UP ON IT. I'm not giving up on some lost parts that I have. Go and try next spring, it'll be worth it.
And there he goes with the carbon...

If all else fails DRAIN THE LAKE.

If you do get it out it would be a good test of durability. There is not many things that survive 20 feet under water.

quick question, how did your merv exactly fall through?... the thing ways like what- 3 pounds? for it to fall through it had to have been some thin ice, in which case you would of fell through the ice before the merv did, the story doesn't quite add up.

If you ask me, that's really depressing. I would be considering suicide if that happened to me (just so you know, i am joking). Also, even though it is waterproof; if your waiting for spring then its gonna get a bit rusty and also if it's that deep it might not cope that well.

man you should rent a wet suit and a scuba tank or a professional diver. even if it costs some money at least you will have your truck back. the longer you wait the more it could get burried in the debris at the bottom. also remember your physics class in high school. that thing did not sink strait down

(mostly) Good idea! i'm a PADI AI, and would help if closer. Go to your local dive shop and ask for some help - tip them some $ and give it a shot! 20-30ft is shallow for scuba - with some good light and drysuits they could have it up in minutes if you know exactly where it went through.

Leave the diving to people who know what they are doing - diving under ice is not something you should attempt - even if you know how to dive normally. Overhead environments (Ice, Caves, Wrecks) can kill if you don't know what you are doing. Ask for help - you may be surprised to find a diver who's an RC nut and looking to gain some +Karma.

This is why i ask for a pinpoint location. I'm not a professional diver, but i will be at that lake to armed with my snorkel to help with the efforts..

Get an Rc submarine with a live streaming waterproof camera, then attach a (waterproof) robotic arm to the bottom with another controller, then make sure it has enough power to come back up with the MERV. Oh and get some battery telemetry for the sub so it doesn't get stuck too. Very simple . Sorry about the car though.

On the bright side, if you are still going to sell it, when you do you can tell everyone that it survived on the bottom of a lake for a couple months. BTW you might need a new receiver cause I've heard the box isn't good for being completely submerged.
