Proud owner of old 2.5 T-maxx w/ question

Just wanted to say heeeellllllllooooo nitro i have a question though about the engine, its the old tmaxx with the 2.5 and reverse and 27mhz radio. what is an easy way to get the sleeve out of the engine when i dont have rubber pliers to slide in there and push it up???

Welcome to nitro! Hey, I thought you where going to get a Slayer... To get the sleeve out of the engine, insert a soft object, like a zip tie, (That what I use, works great) or wood stick, anything that is not hard, into the engine's exhaust port, and turn the engine over. The piston will hit the zip tie, (or what ever you stick in there) and since the piston can't go past the zip tie, it will push the sleeve out. Just DO NOT use a hard object to push the sleeve out. Using a hard object can damage the piston/sleeve, and possibliy ruin your engine. Hope this helps!

Little wd on outside of sleeve and its should slide right out

thanks guys, i got the whole motor apart now and im not sure if i need to change the piston and sleeve...the piston is still about a 2mm from the end of the sleeve, not sure what i should do, and the inner bearing looks pretty bad also... any advice?

If the piston stops before the top then it still has decent pinch unless the piston and/or sleeve are scored. Since it is apart, replace the bearings. You don't want the rear one to let loose at 30k+ rpms.

$23 for the two bearings!!! good thing i only paid $100 for the truck thanks double g....do you know those little air filters they have at advanced auto parts? they look like super small cold air intake filters, you think i could use one of those on my truck? i will never be running this in water or mud, just dry situations...i might have more questions stick around, tomorrow i will post some before and after and i will mention you for helping me

Stick with the Traxxas dual stage or Motorsaver filter. Those other filters do not provide sufficient filtering for the small tolerances of the engine.

i was thinking about using power up to upgrade this regular 2.5 engine to the 3.3 engine, on the traxxas website its saying that i am exchanging the 2.5r. can you do the power up with the 2.5 engine? to the 3.3?

yes u can. u will be pleased with the 3.3 coming from the 2.5

do i need anything esle different if i am changing to a 3.3? is the motor mount different? different air filter?(if new one doesnt come with). anything at all, i dont wanna get this motor and not be able to run it cuz i need something else.. and when i do get the new 3.3 is there anything special i need for that when i get it to get it up and running? remember...ive never done nitro before

reciever question...where does each of these plug into the reciever?
Steering servo, reverse servo, throttle/brake servo, battery box anyone?

when i have everything pluged in right on the truck, the servo's move when i turn the truck on but no response from the remote control...any ideas?

dont forget to break in your new 3.3 if you get one. i dont know what to tell you about the reciever and servos

Traxxas fuel tanks are priced really good. I have an aluminum tank but im thinkin about lookin into an extra capacity tank made from clear plastic like stock. I think rpm makes one I dont really want to go the route of the violator tank because i rather like the stock chassis arangement

Im sorry i was wrong. Rpm does not make that tank. Proline makes an extra capacity t maxx fuel tank. Its called a runtime fuel tank. Looks like stock style but holds more fuel. Ive saw various prices but the range it between 15-25 dollars usd depending where u find it. Im running a big block on my t maxx so thats probably what ill buy. Hope your search ends well

the 2.4ghz reciever was 4times smaller than the original so it fit really good with the million wires , i got two tanks through the new piston and sleeve and she is running good, hope it doesn't rain tonight so i can do the other three tanks and start popping wheelies

Depends on the engine try heating up the case then take a small punch and a hammer and slowly nock it out from we're the backing plate is, be very careful not to damage like the piston or crank case, this method is best if you don't need the sleeve
