    Slash build (Racing)

Got a Mike Jenkins edition 2wd slash, brushed. Wanted 2wd cause all my other vehicles are 4wd. At first I was happy just to have a vehicle that I could bash around with and was durable. But it didn't take long for me to get frustrated with the lack of handling due to the high center of gravity, or the shear lack of power with the brushed system. Though I will admit that I was running 3S on the stock brushed system and it took the abuse to my surprise. And with 3S it was quick. The stock tires just left a lot to be desired. So I did what I do to all my vehicles, I started to design and build it the way I wanted it to be. My goal was to improve all aspects of the truck. This is what I have built so far.[IMG][/IMG]

Nice what kind of pan is that on the chassis ( the black part ) is it aluminum? I would love to do a reverse trans build with the battery sitting sideways and it being adjustable front to rear.

No the sides are plastic, makes it great for replacement if needed. It was an original losi 8 2.0 chassis that has been cut and modified to allow me to use the slash front and rear. All of the bare aluminum or silver pieces are custom made for either support braces or mounting plates or both. Those parts will all be painted. The pics were from the final fit and quick test drive to check all features.

RAG6, funny you said about the rear bumper mount. I actually have another bracket for it. I just used the pieces in the pics to allow me to get a precise measurement. But I'm always interested in a more durable idea. Trying to make this thing bulletproof.

I'm not using anything crazy to build it. It's all hand built with saws, files, dremel, and a drill. Oh and a tape measure.

It really makes the rear shock tower solid, More solid that a stock setup...

P.S. its not 1 machined piece... it is an assembly of 3 pieces.

Cool, thanks. I'll send you a pm if I need it. I'm going to try and test out my design to see how it holds up. If it works as good as I hope and can take serious bashing without any issues I may start making more. But there's a lot of testing to do. Im just curious to see how it stacks up against the other sc trucks at the track. Haven't really invested much into it money wise. Thank goodness for eBay.

All the pieces painted and ready for final assembly. A few minor changes after the test runs.

Very Nice! Are you going to give it some toe in? It looks like the rear wheels are parallel.

Thanks everyone. This has become the biggest conversion ive done so far. My next step is to get a 4x4 roller and build a qualiry lcg chassis for that. My friend has been bugging me for one. Hope this helps anyone looking to change things up.

O8KGraves- I like slash 2.0. Didn't even think of it. Was trying to figure how the **** 8ight could work in.

SLW-SVT- yeah there are a lot of adjustments to be made. Just got it all together last night. I'll be toeing in the rear and some minor front adjustments. Gotta get it out to see what I have to dial in. I'll post video of the test runs.

I trashed all the pieces I had cut off. If I tear it down again I will take pics to try and illustrate. I had the remove a lot and and then line up all the holes for the stock slash front and rear and then make adjustments to allow for all the bracing to fit in. the bracing takes the most time.

Looks like you need to take your rear arms off and swap sides your toe is in the wrong direction. And for a 4x4 lcg get the new 1/10 scale rally chassis it is a 4x4 lcg slash chassis same length and everything just a different rx box.

First track today. Truck drove fantastic. Jumps are very well balanced. Handling is a night and day improvement. Unfortunatly... It was cut short by a broken rear shock tower.

Ok, so I got an RPM rear shock tower, but I'm wondering if there's something better. I'll only take this to the track every once in a while. But most of the time I'm driving it at construction sites or ramping it. Durability is te biggest thing. I'm not looking to repair this truck every run. I'm also looking into replacing the front shock tower. That's just way too flimsy. Anyone have any good suggestions. Maybe ones that you have used and have handled a lot of abuse.

well i run rpm towers front and rear and have given them some abuse with nothing but good results so far. im thinking another option you have is to get a protrac setup from proline which will help your handling even more. and i heard there towers are pretty tuff to

X2 on the RPM shock towers....Shocks get a good work out on the race tracks putting alot of stress on the mounts.... Even more so on bashing off road stuff...

I have had the RPM shock towers in use and abuse since last Feb .... No complants..

Ok the latest update: thanks everyone I went with rpm shock towers front and rear. Fixed the toe issue with the rear wheels, adjusted the rear mounting point for the shocks. Sealed the rear diff and used 100k diff fluid, huge difference. Back to the track this weekend. Going to put it through a real durability test.
