Why won't the Rally accept hard case 2s lipo? Surely Traxxas expects their customers to drop in lipo's asap.

I don't have a soft case 2s to try fitment, so I can't speak to that yet.

Does shimming it up with a couple of washers help any? Strange that it sits that low. I know i'll definitely need the battery expansion then as I mainly run nothing but SPC hardcase 5400 50c 2S Lipos.

That exact SPC battery is the one that doesn't fit. I didn't have a chance to unscrew and look at the mount to see what could be done about fitment. I think we can make it work with some longer screws and spacers.

Also, my mount is a little crooked as you can see in the picture below (the battery is sitting flush with the bottom of the battery tray). I was very careful to make sure the battery was flat before snapping the pic.

when you test it do you mind telling me how those tires are. i like that the bfgoodrich is imprinted so it doesnt fade off like the slash ones. and hopefully they have more traction

and O.G. i think your rally is better... or at least faster i mean it got to your door first right?

I see that. It doesnt look like it would take much to shim it to fit. I'm not sure what it looks like under the battery mount. Wonder if a piece of lexan and a longer fastener would work. May have to get a little creative until can get our hands on the extension. In all actuallity I will be slapping the ET-3S ET-2400kv motor in their quick and be running 3s. So I will need something to keep that pack hunkered down.

    3S 5400 50C
    PACK DIMENSIONS: 136mm long x 43.5mm wide x 30mm deep

The 3S is 5.5mm (almost 1/4") taller. Hmmmmm....

My soft pack 3s lipo sticks up so far I'm not sure how the clasp part will work even with an expansion set. As you can see from the pics above there is plenty of length available to slide the battery forward, just not up higher.

I see no reason why the battery mount at the rear would be any different that the slash 4x4 piece. Get a slightly longer screw and put some washers between the chassis and the mount. Good as gold.
When i bought my Slash4x4 i bought the extended kit so my battery would fit, turned out the guy i bought it from had shimmed it up enough that it fit.

The rear battery mount is similar to my Sl4sh, but the front is wholly different. Due to the chassis design I won't be able to raise the front like the rear.

I'll have to think about it.

I took the Rally for a shakedown run, changed esc over to lipo mode, dialed in the parameters, increased the steering endpoints a bit, got the steering trim straight and ran it around the parking lot for about 5 minutes then did a speed run with the bone-stock truck and gearing, and got 26mph on my best run with the SPC 2s lipo pictured above. Temps on the velineon motor were 101F at the end, and 98F by the rotor. Speed controller heat was non-existent.

    Points to mention:

    1. Braking is fantastic with enough nose dive to know you're coming to a complete stop.
    2. Sounds quieter than my friends 4x4 Stampede with the velineon motor.
    3. Stock Rally body is much more pliable and softer than my Slash lids. I really think this thing will fall to pieces if you bash very hard at all.
    4. Nearly impossible to overturn the truck with these hard tires. Full-speed turns on the street puts the car into a slide with the tires making a deep growl.
    5. The chassis touches/scratches the ground over bumps that my Rustler and Slashes shrug off. For example, there is a 1" drop from the street to the parking lot across the street and the Rally bangs about every time when the Rustler does not.
    6. 2s Hard case lipo fitment problem.
    7. Front body mount is very cool and innovative.
    8. Rear body mount height is also very innovative.
    9. Zero wheelies at the moment. I may tighten the slipper and see if that helps.

I'm not going to run 3s in this system because I plan to sell the electronics as "lightly used" and I figure I should stick to 2s for that to apply.

Thanks for the update OG. Guess it looks like we're going to need the expansion kit. I'm super excited to get mine. Wish I could sleep straight for the next 3 days. LOL

Wonder how the body would look trimmed to keep from snagging the ground? :sly:

Is a battery expansion kit already available for the Rally? I need one bad for my 3s when the time comes.

Width-wise the SPC fits pretty tight in the compartment so I felt safe bashing a bit without the lipo secured... But I'll need to come up with something better before I bash it hard.

There are scratches on the lid under the front bumper area, and the chassis doesn't have a mark on it. The lid sits below the bottom of the front bumper by about a 1/4" so that's where it's been rubbing. I may grind off a little tomorrow with the dremel.

Based on my motor temps I'd feel comfortable bumping up the pinion a tooth or two if I planned on sticking with the velineon.

Overall, the Rally did ok with 2s, but really needs 3s to come alive.

How does the Rally to compare to a stock Slash 4x4 on 2s as far as the car wanting to flip when making sharp turns and speed?

The only reason I am asking is because if the Rally rides as low as you say it does, I might be better off with a Slash 4x4 because my XO-1 already scrapes the ground.

Battery Update: I tested fitment for my Reedy 2s hard-case lipo and it doesn't fit either, too tall. So its definitely a Rally design problem, because it has happened with two different lipo manufacturers.

Not enough space here for the battery hold-down to fit. I plan to mod the mount with a couple spacers underneath to raise the mount.

Here are the specs on the Traxxas 2S 5000mah 25c Lipo pack.

    LiPo 5000(Mah) 11.1(V) 25(cell) 155(L) 25(H) 45(W) 12.3(oz)

You'd think their stock 2S pack would fit w/o any issues. You know most everyone is going to use those vs the Nimh.

they certainly "look" like a standard 2.2/3.0 tire. Someone will have to put a tape to them to be sure.

I'll check this out as soon as I get home. I didn't consider sliding the battery forward to make room for the hold-down. There is at least an inch of room to play with lengthwise.

I'm not sure what size they are, no markings on the tire itself, but they are about a 1/4" shorter than my stock worn down Slash tires.

Jangs' unboxing vid he showed them next to a standard SC tire, while the tire portion is smaller the rim itself looked the same.
Appears to just be a lower profile tire.

Any chance you can possibly mount some sc truck tires on it and check for clearance, As i really want to buy one but only if i can run trenchers or badlands. Thanks!

Here's the deal: There is about an inch of room to move the battery forward or aft, and with the battery positioned in the middle, I can either fasten the back, or fasten the front battery hold-down, but I can't do both. I'm afraid to force the front clasp very much, and there isn't an easy way to raise it due to the chassis being in the way.

Take a look at the pic below... see the gray tab of material to the left? It is impossible to raise the battery clasp without removing this piece of chassis - one of the servo mounts screws into that chassis piece: remove it and the servo is only connected by 3 mounting screws.

It will definitely fit stock Slash SC tires and I'm pretty sure it will take standard 17mm 1/8 buggy tires as well.
