    Gearing Question

So I bought my 7 year old son a captain's curse about 2 months ago. (ok, ok it was for both of us!) I just upgraded to the vxl with the 3500. Now the truck is crazy fast. We use it pretty much only off road (dirt, fields, bashing, etc). Currently on stock tires, but that may change. I was just wondering if anyone had some good suggestions for gearing - pinion/spur - that works best for this type of play.

I would start with a 16 tooth pinion and 90 tooth spur gear.

I have the same truck and 4000kv and 16/86 was great but wanted less wheelys so I went to 20/86 and it's good

I have the 90 tooth spur gear - tried to 21t pinion that is included, and it still will flip over if you're not carefull. I purchased a few different pinion gears today (13-15-17) as well as the 16 and 21 included. I'll just have to play until I get it right - but that will have to wait a few days as my son just put it into a concrete bench at the park...
I was going to put on an aluminum bulkhead anyways!

You could switch to 50% power at the ESC as well until he gets used to the new power.
