Is the connector of the rear leds a female or male plug? I want to add lights to a trailer but don't know what would be better using a harness from the grave digger or a rear led harness from a summit and removing four led to stay with the two red.

The red plastic JST housing is the larger female kind but the actual terminals are pins so I'd call it male. And I'd be wrong. See below.
You can easily find JST connectors and LEDs on eBay so why not make your lights from scratch? You can also try rc-lighthouse there.

I know they're having their break there by your brake drums. No, you're not invited.
So the one from the center harness is a female plug?
Upon further review, my description is correct, but it seems that JST connector gender is governed by housing type, not by terminal type. So the rear lights have a FEMALE connector, like below.
Traxxas uses black wire for the negative and black wire with white for the positive.
This is a male JST connector, the kind you find on the center harness.
