    Heat issue.

Anyone running castle sidewinder/4600 on 3s with 18/86? After a few passes im almost at 190F on both motor and esc. I will try 16/90 and see what happens. This is my first run with 3s.

16/90 is the maximum gearing Castle recommends for that combo. Castle is often a bit conservative, but the Sidewinder isn't the most powerful ESC around. It doesn't really like 3S. You need a fan on the ESC.

I have the old style sidewinder/4600 2-pole motor and run it on 2s using 23/83 gearing. 3s didn't really work well because of the high temps and I swear the motor made funny noises.

But I can run 2s 23/83 all day long with no problem.

I gave up the 3s on my SV2/4600. In my experience the speed on 2s geared correctly was the very similar to the speed of 3s geared 17/90, without the excessive heat. The SV2 does not like 3s.
