This is what happens when you cut a Summit in half and stretch it 3 inches...

Well I was inspired again by the Discovery channel and I came up with my version of a NOAA excursion vehicle

This was created using my double dual lay summit ..

I will get better pics but here are some using my phone.

I'll post better pics in the morning In better places with my camera...

Quick vid that will give you the concept.... Just make sure to use steel rods since they are stronger than paperclips...

Thanks for all the info. on your alterations. Have an extra chassis and other stuff just for the same protect but was stumped on extending the shifting! I was trying to find titanium wire but your use of steel seems to work great. Nice idea using the marine board, what it have is alum box channel for doing my extension IF time allows me to get to it. Nice use of common everyday products to accomplish some of you mods Question for ya; where you/are you in the military? Why they teach you how to get buy with what is on hand or fix things with what ever you can scrounge up or get your hands on. And would gather that is a 1/5 model Hummer body you used.

Thanks... No I wasn't but my father, brother, mother grandfather were.... I think my dad and grandfather inspired me the most to think outside the box and work with what you've been dealt.... Some of the creations they had in my youth still boggle my mind.

That makes sense, most of the family had been in the military so what they learned about using what was on hand was passed down. Kinda figured there had to have been some military influence somehow, most do not know how to use what is on hand. Myself USMC.
Where did you find your Hummer body and is it a 1/5 scale?

Found it at a flea market had no remote so it cost me $25. It's actually between a 1:5 & 1:6.... When I measure the wheelbase it's closer to 1:6 however the body specs are closer to 1:5 so I use the body specs....

thanks, I like to shoot videos and this one being the first one I did (on my own) to try and make it look scale.

To the guys who do this scale videos "GREAT JOB" its harder than it looks if you want it to flow well. Im so use to bashing the heck out of a car and letting the chips fall where they may and reacting to the terrain that that planning this, felt like a lot of work... but it was fun...

Great project! I probably speak for several when I say I enjoy seeing solutions to problems and challenges that's a part of the hobby that I find most interesting. I looked through the post but did not find a link to the blog that was mentioned in your last video. Would you mind posting a link?

    Thanks,

Wow! That is amazing. It looks really heavy the way it rides. Seems realistic. Did you have to beef up the suspension?

No, its still stock parts.... The summit is very well made so I have found that most upgrades are not needed for how I'm using the truck.

Thanks, I wanted to act as real as possible in it response to terrain. What I ended up with is 55 wt oil when I did my last vid... But I think I'm going to go thicker... Maybe 75 or stay at 55 and use tapered diaphragms so it will compress slower but rebound quicker....

When I try it I will try to pst up a vid
