i just purchased a slash ultimate and a lipo 5000 battery. i run alot of different terrian but do not race. i would like ideas/info on ugrades. i have stripped two spur gears already but i think i have the clutch adjusted good now.

RPM everything A temp gun to keep up with motor temps axles if you run in alot of dirt (cleaning stock ones sucks) I love the teknos but you will get alot of opinions on that. keep the motor temps under 200 by the manual but i try to never get over 160. If you get in water make sure to disassemble bearings and clean or they will seaze. Esc fan and motor heat sink.

The vxl won't last long on 3s. Save money for an aftermarket brushless system.

With 3s you're going to need axle upgrades. Mip or tekno, you decide. Also upgrade the slipper to the revo slipper (5351 & 5352x).

I agree with cinnabun, fried a velineon on 3s in one month, be careful with temps . You should be fine on 13/54 gearing, if you want to do 18/54 only do a few speed runs and let it cool down. Trust me, you will over temp.

There are things you can do to help keep the motor happy. A heatsink with a single fan on the motor will help with temperature problems. You can also cut a hole in the windshield to get more airflow to your electronics. Just check the motor often. If it's too hot to keep your finger on it, put it by a fan to cool it off quickly. Save your money for a better motor combination.

First order of business is you must post pictures of your truck. Then you must send out a mass paypal payment to all the existing members for initiation.

Good advice already posted. If you are planning on running 3s the velineon wont last long. A good heat sink and fan will prolong its death but from my experience its inevitable, not a question of if but when. If you run 2s it will last just as well as any other on the market.

I had 2S with the Velineon. Just got the Mamba Monster with 4S and this thing is a whole new beast. WORTH EVERY PENNY!
