What are your Mods? 2.5, 2.5r or 3.3. Gearing setup?

It's a bone stock 2.5 no mods. I just got the diff apart. I think all I need to know now is If Traxxas sells a complete diff. As there is nothing salvageable but the case screws on this one. It fatal!![]()

Ebay, 10-15 bucks.
I thought about that but how can I be sure I get the right gear ratio?

I have a 2.5. I was looking on eBay and saw a bunch that were labeled 2.5/3.3 front or rear. Are the 2.5 and 3.3 interchangeable?
Desmosedici RR
Yes, they are all interchangeable. I did a ground up restoration on my Classic T-MAXX 2.5. The new ring gear comes with the hex screws. Not the Phillip heads. Stock ring and pinion is 37t/13t.

Time for FLM upgrades!!!!!!![]()
All stock Maxx T&E diff's are the same ratio & are interchangeable.
Look out for the tree/crunch!

Thanks Wildman. Just ordered em.
PS. What's FLM upgrades? I'm still new.
Desmosedici RR
I take it he means the FLM(FastLane Machine) Hybrid bulk/diff combo w/1/8 scale diff's in them.
Just the bulk's are $70, bulk's & diff are $90.

I have emaxx brushless diffs in both my T maxx trucks, got them no ebay $10 + shipping i bought 7
I would recommend shimming the diffs while they are open to get better gear mesh...that's IMHO
TMAxx Diff Shim Mod & Pictures of how to shim a diff. Good info in both threads. Good luck.
Rock n Rolla !
After surveying the damage I don't think it was a diff failure. I think it was a bearing that came apart. They don't live very long with ball bearings running around loose in there!
Desmosedici RR
I was just about to say to check your bearings.... For bearings,, Avid bearings work great, forget the ceramics and get the steel revolutions series... They last and are very efficient, not expensive either....
Another thing is the older diff cases have only 2 screws holding them together... This causes the cases to flex and twist a little. Not good. That changes the mesh of the gears between the ring and the pinion... The newer diff cases have 4 screws and since they were brought out I see a lot less people posting about their diff's... That's a cheap and highly recommended thing to do IMHO...![]()

Mine were the 4 screew model. It was FULL of dirt when I opened it up! Not sure if the dirt caused the failure or if it was able to get in there because the bearing was coming apart and allowing it to pass through. At any rate, it's all back together now and went out for it's first bashing today. The 45wt oil in the shocks and one extra shim for a little preload seems to be doing the trick as far as the bottoming out from the previous thread and the diff works great now.
