    Upgrading rustler xl-5

I got a rustler xl-5 for Christmas. So I wanted something faster so I got a brushless motor, what else do I need for it to be as good as the rustler vxl?

If you got it new less than a year ago it is BL ready, you can pretty much drop in the ESC/motor combo of your choice. I REALLY recommend upgrading to LIPOs at the same time, if you're not already running them.

Lipos and correct gearing helps a lot and you can also look into tires that fit your preferred terrain.

XL-5's have bushings in the bearing carriers, your brushless system will eat them up and spit them out. You NEED to get bearings in your carriers.

Most annoying, for some reason I thought all brushed trucks were BL ready.

I was also wondering if a 28/86 gearing would work for offroad

I cant believe I forgot to suggest that myself. I have a xl-5 and putting all around ball bearings in to replace the stock bushing made a great deal of difference imo also its less stress on motor slighty but hey some better then none right. I got my pack of 8 on ebay 11.99 free shipping

There's also a proline transmission I want. Does anyone know if it really helps acceleration?
