Freakin pinion grub screw on motor shaft keeps loosening!

Ive locktited the crap out of it, what else can I do. Is this why some people get the 5mm shaft on the 3800kv motor? Thought about getting a sleeve to go over the 1/8 shaft to convert to 5mm pinions. Are there 5mm 48p pinions? Do sleeves work good?

Yes there are 5mm 48p pinions but my hobby shop doesn't stock many of them; your LHS may have to order them in as well. My Viper Copperhead 4600kv motor has a 5mm shaft and I wanted to keep the stock 83t spur.

Are you using a 1/16 tool to tighten it? I tighten mine TIGHT and usually don't have a problem with it loosening.

Here's a sweet RR pinion in your flavor: edit: on second thought, those threads look pretty bad... I'd hate to have to clean up the threads on a brand new pinion.

Get yourself a good driver and that should solve the problem. Not sure what you're using, but usually when someone has an issue with the pinion coming off repeatedly it's because they're trying to tighten it with the L-wrench that comes with the truck.

I use a bondus set w the rounded hex heads and handle grips, metric, but to get it as tight as possible, i use the short end of a L hex. Ive stripped more than a few over the past year on tiny screws. Thats what I like about my e-maxx, mostly 2mm stuff.

Could also try drilling a small indent into the shaft to allow the grub screw to grab better
