    Lipo swelling

I purchased a 3 cell 8400 mah lipo from traxxas a month ago, I have run 8 charges through it charged correctly with a traxxas charger with balance board. The pack is starting to swell where the lead exit the pack. What is causing this and will traxxas replace under warranty? These packs arent cheap!!

Damage (as from an impact), overdischarging, and overcharging cause a LiPo to swell (puff.)

I do not think that swelling is covered under the one year warranty. I believe it is covered under the 50% warranty.

if you charged and used the lipo correctly and didnt discharge below 3.0v bare minimum and didnt have any impacts on the pack or drop it then it shouldnt be swelling at all. not sure if i would mail a lipo that is swelling though to any company not safe i think. did traxxas ask for the pack back or something? that why you sent it to them?

that is totally weird i would have thought they would say send pics to them and they would send another like that because shipping a swelled lipo is so dangerous IMO.

maybe, i know that when i asked other companies what happens if it puffs because i read alot about that before getting into lipos and asked about puffing and shipping it back and they told me they would ask for pics and not send the lipo back because of fire danger. thinking the reason is they want to see whats going on with quality control maybe why they are having packs going bad.

I would ask to talk to somebody else. There is no way the post office would want that shipped!

I wouldnt have sent it even if they asked for me to send it, i have a friend that is a post man and i have 2 aunts that are post people been that for over 25yrs now and for them to handle 1 swelled lipo and i shipped it i would be feeling totally bad if something happened. I would have talked to a manager/supervisor there insisted if someone requested that lipo back that is a lack of following safty rules with the post office and lack of care for someones safty. i dont know if thats me but i would have.

To the OP post back to let us know if you get a new lipo or not.

From that photo angle I do not see anything wrong with the pack other than the front left side of the pack (as viewed) looks pushed in and the label is chewed up a little.

from the picture looks like nothing is wrong with the pack from what i can see, mine do that also just normal i even have that from nimh packs as well and nothing is wrong with those packs. i do see a spot on the upper side where it looks like maybe an impact or push in there and the label looks like it slide on something like gravel or road. there is some road rash on there from the looks of it.
What traxxas rc is this in?
