GT-8 Bodies on Slash

My son and I built a couple of these conversions. One is on a LCG chassis and the other on a 2wd VXL Slash. We Drag Race these on the street. We really have a great time with these. Just like Drag Racing a door car. We are in the process of building 2 others. Thanks for letting me share. Great Forum.

I havent had a chance to run mine, so I was wondering if yours wheelied alot? Is the wheelie bar a necessity? I like the look of it and Im gonna order one, I was just wondering if I should get the rubber wheels, or would the plastic ones get much use on them?

@ Dr.J I'f you could i'd go with the Rubber wheels, they also include bearings for a smoother roll.

My LCG does not wheelie with a 2s Lipo but my sons stock slash does. It wheelies on 3s but somewhat uncontrallable with the gears we run. I think the wheelie bars add the drag race look. Spring for the traxxas aluminum wheelie bar wheels they look cool and uese bearings so they are way smoother rolling.

Well we have 2 bodies painted and 2 in prep to paint. We use these on 2wd Slash and 4x4 Slash vehicles. Here are some pictures. I don't have close ups but they are pretty much stock except for the LCG that uses the Rustler pan...

Update: I installed a front splitter assembly for a Traxxas XO-1 and also a new set of XO-1 tires/wheels.
1st run with a 3 cell lipo (with wheelie bar installed) resulted in a blowover. 2nd attempt with some weight added to the front was a bit smoother. Only went 58mph. I plan to change the gear ratio and try again. The skide noise you hear when I brake is the splitter plate hitting the asphalt.

Mine did the same thing, got around 50 and took flight. I need to drop the front even more, and that wheelie bar idea I got from ya works good. On the lcg chassis, the wheel bar sets real low, but once wind gets under the front, FLIP! Show us a pic of the tires and how they sit in the wheel well. I came real close to buying a set for mine.

If you get those whellie bar wheels, make sure you loctite them or you'll lose the left one every time.

The rear tires rubbed the paint on the inside. I stiffened the shocks up and that took care of it.

OK- who makes the front air dam and side skirts in the last set of photos? I'm getting a list of parts together to convert one of my Slashes over the GT-8 platform. Yours looks really nice!

Do those wheels require the 17mm adapters? or do those bolt right on?

The front splitter and tire/wheels are from the Traxxas XO-1. Yes, you will need to put the 17mm adapters on. I used the Traxxas 17mm adapters - they work just fine.

Just a suggestion but if you are having trouble with blow-overs you might want to take downforce off the back, cut some slot openings in the rear wing to let air pass through, or find a way to stall the air going over it so it is for looks and not functional. You want more downforce up front because that big rear wing will lift the nose up under aerodynamic load.

Well I removed the rear spoiler and flipped it upside down. I also drilled some holes in the front and rear of the body to let air in and out. Then went out for a "speed run" - did not set the world on fire but ran 62.7mph and the car weighs 8.75lbs. It's very driveable at that speed and no "blowovers" on the run. Now to get a better battery. This was a speedpack 5000 20c 3cell.

mine weighs in at 5.5 lbs w a 4000mah 2s. Why is yours so heavy, did u add some weight? Oh wait, yours is 4wd isnt it?

I am trying the speed runs with the body on the 4wd. And, I added lead weight in the front and a bit in the center along with a garmin to capture the speed. My goal is 70mph and have it still controllable. I want to do this with the stock velineon system. I'll get some fresh pictures loaded later.

Those xo-1 tires are gonna help you out alot at 70mph. I had a backslash body on mine when I reached 70mph, so the wind wouldnt blow ya over.
