Polarash... Hate it or love it...

Some time ago I started a thread because I was gonna build me a buggy with a 2" longer wheelbase to, further, improve handeling of my Slash..

Then a guy a work told me he saw a cool thing on his holiday in Portugal and he said I would probably like it...
He showed me a picture of a Polaris UTV.. I told him I told him I knew they race them in the US..

Looking at some pictures I showed him,a new plan started, I drawed up a new chassis...

Today I finaly started working on it and this is what I build.... My 1/6 (sort of) scale Polaris, Slash.
The only things of the original Slash are steering servo, the gears and slipper of the tranny, the front bearing carriers, bearings and that's more or less it..


The weight of the ca cage is 3lbs, wich means that it is about 1,5 pounds heavier than stock wich amazes me, so it's not much heavier than your basic tircked out Slash..

Set up for now (to find out that what I thought of really works),
Protrac,
Eightshooter beadlocks with bigger screws,
BIG 2.2 Mickey Thompson Baja claw's
Mamba Monster ESC,
HPI (Castle) 1965Kv 1415 size motor,
32p 26/56 gearing,
50000mAh 3S, wich could become a 4S when I want more Power..

So I hope to finish my build before next weekend so I can do some testing, and then some light and decals...

Thanx, but I already have the Monster ESC, but tge MMP would be a good option, I wanted the MMP SCT but this was a much cheaper option, the motor is cheaper, but still a Castle and the ESC is a used 1 a bought from a guy I know.. I considerd the MMP SCT but in Holland it's real expensive...

Are you going to use *gasp* HPI 1/5 scale parts on it? Looks like most of your parts are going to be custom... Great job!

No I don't think I'm gonna use Baja parts on it, except for, maybe the lightpods on the front....Tomorrow I hope to put in the drivetrain and front supension and steering. On monday I hope to do the body panels so I can put the transmitterbox and battery holder in. The battery will be mounted in a way so I can move it to the front or back to change traction an improve steering on differrent surfases.. (I hope)

Finaly... Updates.. Had to find out I made a design errorr zo needed to adjust the front.
Temporary body panels..
And then it's ready for the 1st testdrive..
And the weight is, without bodypanels, 4370grams.... Not to bad, the chassis is 1.4 kilo's, so the rest is wheels, tranny, electronic;s etc...

Did a little test drive, had to improvice the steering and that needs some looking after, but next week iI will make a new bracket and then it should be fine..

Tomorrow.., sanddriving an see if I can outrun a 4X4 VXL on 2s.....

Nice! I like the look of it! I'd bet you'll drive it REALLY carfully, becaue if you crash it you might break a custom part...

First testrun, 3 tires of my beadlock's 1 shock broken in half... But driving it is fun.. Need to get the battery more forward to get more traction in front... But first do some building..

Anyway.., anyone experiance with taping the inside of tires, I think my tires came of because they were ballooning.. So I might have to glue my tires to my beadlock rims. Drill some new holes to mount my new rear shocks.. And then more testdrving...

Try taping them, but make sure to use gorilla tape, not duct tape.

Too cool! Way to be original. I've heard that sand paper helps hold the bead. Just cut it out like a gasket and place it under the ring. The Walker Evans paint job would be a nice touch too!

Is the diff letting one tire spin and the other not at all if so that doubles the speed of the tire and could be what is causing it to pop off. So if your geared for 40mph and it "diffs out" that tire is making 80mph !!!

Didn't think about the diff factor but that could be a problem... It was the left tire twice, but the right came of aswell..So what to do with the diff, it's stock....?

Building up untill now about 20hrs including design.. But now I need to make it work 100%.. So I'm not done yet..

well unless you tore it apart then yeah its stock. they make a spool for it (wheels turn same all the time) but dont be surprised if you start breaking other things especially if you run it on the road ever

OK.... Hop up timed.., I gonna get an FLM sealed diff.. I hope it's good, I read many different things about it, but is the only 1 I found in Holland... Diff oil somthing like 100.00WT.. Jato front A arms, the look longer the ProTrac ones, new shocks.. I am gonna try to glue some kind of belt inside my tires, to make them like normal belted car tires... And I'm doing he sandpaper gasket beadlock solution..

Plenty of work to do and no time to do it...

just tape the tires like everyone else does man, its way better and easier than "trying to glue something" in there.

O.K. So updated a lot since iast time, after the first test...4 new shocks, and changed the upper mounting points cause they were wrong.
FLM diff with 50K diff oil.
Mounted stock, rear A arms of the Slash, Pede, 4x4. Had to take a nudge out with the Dremel to keep te steering working when the front wheels drop all the way down.
Moved the battrery more to the front to put more weight on the frony.
Taped the tires on the inside (took me a while to find the right tape but I did. Then I thuoght about the reason for me to get beadlocks, cause I wanted to just change the tires when they are worn down. So I dicided to glue my beads to my tires, the beads are metal so easy to clean when I need to change the tires..

Did a short street test an all seemed to work so hopefully I can do a beach test in the weekend..
