    Heat sink compound??

It was suggested to me that I put heat sink compound in between my motor and sink. It transfers heat to the sink better.(so I've been told) I'm gonna do it, but has anyone else ever heard of, or done this? Thanx.

Not sure about rc applications but on computers you put a thermal heat compound in between the sink and cpu, same idea I suppose but idk about this

My uncle is a fellow RC nut, and works with computer equipment everyday. His thinking was that the heat sink would not have as much potential to disperse heat without it. Ima give it a go. Caint hurt nothin I guess.

Thermal compound is made to get a better contact between two surfaces at the micro level. If it requires anything more than a very thin coat the compound will actually act as an insulator and cause the heat to be even worse. Ive built hundreds of PCs and Im an electronics engineer and have seen more than one CPU in a PC get fried from this as well as IGBT power modules in large scale inverters. Same principles as soldering......the bigger the blob does not mean the better the job.

Someone once removed the heatsink off the stock esc and used a thermal compound and added a pc heatsink. There was a thread about it. He posted some pics.
