    Post Your Custom Homemade Parts!

Hey guys, I just wanted to start a thread to see what creative mods people did to their rc cars! Like homemade airducts, mudflaps, watercooling, bumpers, etc. You can post parts even if you made it out of factory parts, and what "mods" you did to it.

    1. This thread is for custom/modified part pictures only.

    2. The maximum picture size should be 640x480 or less.

    3. Any dead pictures - deleted.

    4. Enough with the rules, HAVE FUN!

Here is some of the "homemade" parts I've made. My custom mud flaps,
My modded nerf bars to keep the body for shifting around,
And my custom made exhaust pipe stinger to keep oil from getting every where.

I made them out of a flat piece of foam, the kind of "anti slip" foam pads you put in tool trays to stop tools from sliding around, then I used a very small drill bit (sorry don't know the size) and I drilled a hole through the bumper and I slid the piano wire through the holes in the bumper. To mount the foam to the piano wire I used eletrical tape (As you can see in the pics) and I wrapped it from top to bottom, all of the way around it to prevent the tape from tearing and or falling of. To prevent the piano wire from shifting around I used medium strength super glue (Not the strong glue just in case I want to remove it some day) and I glued the piano wire to the bumper. So far I've ran 4 times with them, and nothing has gone wrong. When I'm driving on gravel I can even hear and see all of the rocks hitting the mud flaps!

This is my latest bit of DIY on my rc trucks. Custom crawler chassis.

Fully adjustable wheel bases and modular chassis design. Need to add some cross braces and then figure out the electronics mounting.

Several changes later it became this,

Next to a stock 1/10 rusty,

1/24 and 1/36 scale carbon chassis

    1/16 revo servo cover

    unfinished center skidplate

unfinished motor plate needs thicker carbon

carbon rockers proved to be unbreakable, I plan to remake them with bearings

this green thing was a very effective solution to running without a body, with the wing everything was covered

the top piece broke off because the mount was too thin but you can see in this pic it bolted down the flimsy body post to the bulkhead, a carbon brace was later cutout.

before I discovered the ofna 1/12 wing I cut plastic fenders off dirt bikes, they never broke

also as unfinished business I am making a titanium bumper for the 1/16 revo, I cut it out of a titanium spork, titanium was hard on the dremel and drill bits so idk when I'll get back to it.

I have a lot of home-made parts in this guy:

The latest thing I have made is a winch. I looked around at what was available and didn't think they'd do the job I wanted, so I built a winch out of a Losi MRC transmission using a MRC ESC and motor to run it. The truck weights about 8 pounds, the winch can lift at least 20lbs vertically, so I shouldn't have any problems with it...

Here it is mounted up before I made the wiring look neat.

Here is a pic of the chassis prior to cleaning up the wiring from the winch install:

To mount the Summit body and bumpers I had to fabricate chassis braces and mounts. I also had to extend the WB a little over 2". This truck was originally built with an E-Maxx two speed tranny, I had to make the mounts for that as well. Having two speeds was very cool, but the tranny hung down too far and got cought up on everything, so I swapped it out for a AX-10 tanny and it goes over the rough stuff very well.

Its an X-Trail chassis with mainly AX10 guts, but it has a good amount of Traxxas parts, a couple Losi parts, and a couple of Tamiya parts thrown in...

Here is aquick video I shot when I was testing the winch:

Many thanks. This truck has some age on it, it was built before the SCX was out; it was also one of the Reader's Rides in RCCA before I got the Summit bumpers put on.

Here are some current pics of the truck. When I get some time I am going to dismantal everything and rebuild it with a new Summit body. Right now it looks a little funky in front because of the Proline winch, but that was put on long before the actual winch was installed.

This truck as two ESCs, the Novak is used for the motor, the box has the Spektrum RX and Losi MRC ESC. The Novak is "water resistant", but has been submerged before. The other ESC and RX aren't and are sealed in the box. The winch ESC is connected to the RX's third channel with the BEC wire removed.

Nice bumper! I came out better than I thought it would! I guess now the problem is if you hit somthing head on, the first thing that will hit will be the bumper screws... Oh well, looks really tough!

I had this titanuim spork once and I decided it would be totally awesome if I made myself titanium bumpers, after destroying several dremel cutters I decided that would be pretty difficult to complete.
