Just thought I'd share. The other day my brother and I noticed that the internet was beyond slow. I could barely get on speedtest.net, but when I did this is what I got

Don't worry, after resetting the internet it went back up to 5 or so Mbps down. Has anyone seen slower than this?

LOL nope. With a grade of F- and being slower than 99% of the US... I don't think many people have had the privileged of seeing speeds that low. I just did one... here it is.

Sometimes my (old) internet would be cursing along at 0.02Mb/s... However my new internet is blasting through the, err, coppercable at 3Mb/s! It's INSANE!!

far out! You guys have some fast internet there. Is that optic fibre cable? Over here in Australia we are lucky to get 5mbps on ADSL2 which drops right off due to congestion at pal tones to below 3mbps

Not overly impressive but not bad either compared to what it was a week ago. It was dropping down to 1meg on download and way below 1meg upload. It was super slow. They were dead convinced that it wasn't a problem on their end even though I have a brand new router and modem

I'm on the 20meg internet plan now but could upgrade to either 30 or 50 meg but paying $100 a month alone for internet service isn't too appealing.

my download speed isnt bad, my upload speed is horrible and i dont know what ping is............

anybody know what this ping thing is?

edit: if i click down at the bottom of screen on the wireless signal it says my speed is 54Mbps

The 54mbs is how fast your computer can talk via the internet plug, not actually a measurement of your internet speed. Gotta go to speedtest.net to get that! As for ping, it's how long it takes for the signal to get to the test server and back again...so since most of us are in the single digit milliseconds, that's freakin fast.

Ping speed also depends on how close the server you are testing off of is. The closer the server the faster (lower number) your ping speed will be and vice versa. Just surfing the web you rarely will notice a difference if the ping speed changes. You will notice it however gaming on PC or PS3 and Xbox. You want the fastest ping speed possible so you can get into lobbies with the best connection. I can definitely notice the difference between playing in a 50ms ping lobby compared to a 100ms lobby in MW3. I used to play in the 30ms to 40ms ping lobbies in MW2.

It all depends on what internet you have. If you have base plan DSL that's actually not bad. I think the most I ever got on DSL was around 6megs download. In my area, the local DSL provider is now offering up to 45megs download which is insane for DSL, but it's only available in certain areas. Most of the broadband packages start at 10megs.
