    battery question

I am trying to restore a villian IV boat back to run.... It came with three NiCd battery packs and no charger, so I am looking for a charger and probably batteries since I don't know if these batteries are still good.

My question is - what should i look for? there are 6 cells in the battery pack, each are 1.2 v and 1300 mAh. Do I add the volt and mAh, which would be 7.2 v and 7800 mAh?

Thanks for any advice... I am trying to keep cost down until I get more familiar with the hobby.

    Appreciate any help.

Nominal is 7.2 volts and 1300mAH.
Cells are in series so add the voltage but not the amp-hours (capacity.)

Thanks.. if I go with a battery with more amperage, will that mean more performance (ie - more battery run time and/or more speed)? I guess more amps would take longer tocharge also.

More mAH can mean more power, especially than a 1300 pack. And they will take longer to charge the extra capacity. But any NiMH pack I would highly recommend will cost considerably more than a (reasonably priced) LiPo pack that will perform just as well.
