My Mamba monster Slash

Hello:

I wanted to share with you (If you didn't see the Kitteh298 post) My Slash with a mamba monster combo.
First started like a very unusual idea I had, but thanks for Kitteh298 I had the inspiration.

Here are somes pics:

First I Changed the Gearbox to a Hot Racing gearbox(personally, I really like that gearbox):

Now, my "Little" friend, and my homemade cooling fan (Again, I really dont know why, just for be safe the motor is cool )

My gearing is: testing 68/14 in 32p

Batteries: 2x NiMH 8.4v 3000mah(Very decent power)

Everithing is stock(suspension, driveline,....etc)

My next upgrade is adapt my old watercooling system for my Mamba Monster Combo, LiPO battery, and maybe this driveshafts.

Ok, today I tested the 14/68 gearing and is just very slow, maybe i am going to change to 14/58 or 17/58 or 20/58 and see what happen.

I changed the gearing to 14/58 and was a lot better, is faster than 14/68.
My next test is 17/58 and 20/58

Awesome thread! The slash chassis is so versatile. Coming from a guy with a 2wd Stampede with the 2400 combo, I have to ask, how is that hybrid axle setup working out for you? 2wd steel yokes with 4x4 axle shafts? And how many packs have you put on them like that? Thanks in advance

Yep, the slash is a very nice plataform.
I am using the stock shafts (yes the stocks ones ) with the steel outputs, but i am not using the slash 4x4 axles and i think the steel output yokes doesnt fit with the 4x4 axles.
I ran like 5-15 packs with the MMC and 20-25 with the velineon and 5-10 with the stock titan. The axles already have signs of wear
I suggest dont run the slipper clutch very tight and have throttle control.
I suggest use the 4x4 axles or mip axles or maybe this axles:

What is your gearing?
My problem is I have only like 25 meters (max) for run my slash, so i cant get the top speed.
Same here: no heating problems

I was looking my slash and I noticed something. The gearing is 14/62, not 14/68, sorry for the problem.

Theoretical top speed:

14/62: top speed: 30~ Mph*
14/58: top speed: 31~ Mph*
17/58: top speed: 38~ Mph*
20/58: top speed: 45~ Mph*

*Wind resistance and drivetrain drag plays a large role in the reduction of the theoretical top speed.

why is your guys hearing so much different then mine? that 14/62 is a gear ratio of 4.43:1, i was running the stock 86t spur with a 20t spur and only at a 4.3:1 gearing.

is there a benefit to smaller diameter gears? just less rotational mass? or is it just the cc products?

I am using 32p gears because have bigger teeth (more strong) and I have 2 t-maxx spur gears , so is more easy get the parts except the pinion gear because the mamba monster motor have a 5mm shaft and the velineon have a smaller one.
The spur and pinion gears are from traxxas.

Currently, I am using a traxxas 54t spur and a robinson 18t pinion. I can run 50 all day long and it doesn't hardly get warm.

21/50 might be too high. But try it and see I suppose.

And I already said that first thing before, lol. ALSO: use slash 4x4 rear shafts...

Ok, i am going to try 54/18 and 50/21 but is going to be very fast.
About the axles:Yep i am going to buy the 4x4 axles, but i saw this axles, What you think? are more expensive than the slash 4x4 axles but are cheaper than the mip axles

So I searched in youtube how waterproof the ESC and I waterproof my ESC.
First I get something similar of electric tape, but here doesn't exist that so I bought a special silicone and I worked with that:





Those pictures are a bit old, I think I done the work a bit better and it looks like a cake and sorry for don't take a picture from the heatsink, I forget take pics.

Now I have a question:
How I waterproof the Motor? I need sealed bearings?

I was looking on "buy traxxas" things and I found this thing. Is a jumper, and is for make a ESC with 2 connectors (like the mamba monster) and convert to 1 connector.
I was searching and I didnt found a jumper with the traxxas connector, so I made one (I know, It looks awful ) :










Now is a bit better...



Was easy to made:

You need:
1- Traxxas female connector

2- 12 AWG wire(I use 10 AWG wire)

3- Time....

Today I bought bullets connectors and I made some wire extensions for my motor (I need shrink tube ):



And I made a homemade ESC mounting plate.










Also I bought a pair of traxxas slash 4x4 driveshafts

Yep... Is a subwoofer wire (8awg). I really like the color and is semi-transparent for see the the electricity passing (lol i am joking)...
I love the mamba monster combo. You are correct, is like the VXL when you know the throttle control...

Yep still using NiMH until the batteries die and I will change the batteries to lipo and a new charger...
But the mamba still have the enough power with NiMH...

Yeah i know...

Maybe i am going to buy the battery in December but i need you help for choose a combo:
2x 2s lipos batteries (for use my mamba and my vxl system)
Or
1x 4s (for my mamba only)
Or
1x 3s battery (with my "special" connector when is using my mamba and for my vxl system)

I want the 3s battery for use my vxl system too, but i think is just way too low for the mamba...
Or
Use the 2x 2s lipo battery for use my vxl and my mamba monster but i think is very expensive ( I think this combo is the best...)

For the charger i am going to buy the traxxas ez peak 6 amps charger.

And now i have a questions: what happen if i use my velineon 3500 motor with my mamba esc... Using just 3s lipo battery MAX. If nothing happen i am going to buy some bullets connectors...

No problems with this setup, just try not to smile too much. I used a MMP/velineon 3500 for a long time with good results, on 2s and 3s. Your alu motor plate should cool things off nicely while you run it.

Btw... Very nice build.
Just for know... What is your gearing? Right now i am running 20/58 but is very slow (but with nice torque)
I have 14, 17 and 20 pinions and 58 and 62 spur gears.
Maybe i am going to get 54 or 50 spur

The mamba monster is made for 6 cell lipo.
My gearing is 17/54 and I use a 3s lipo. Stays cool with the fan on and tops out at 50.

Well the vxl 3500 is made for 3s max so I would say first some serious heat followed by smoke and if your lucky enough to make it past that the rotor will let go but sadly the case on this motor is pretty thick so I think it will stay contained. LOL

How did this happen I run 3s on mine almost every day. Only had to change the bearings once. But I think it has broke almost everything else in the drive line.

I was looking back at your posts, you can use a needle nose pliers and push the pin out through the esc connector on both sides and then just have one connector, much cleaner setup.

With 6s I think is a bit fast for bashing and now I am going to race with it, so the rules say i only i can use 2s, so I am going to buy 2x 2s for mamba monster and use one 2s for the VXL

In the driveshafts... I read in plural so I was a bit confused...

There is no special connector, that's the point. Just take a pliers and push the esc bar/pins out of the connector.

I tried the steel output yikes with the 4x4 shafts and it won't work, the shafts are much to large to for on the steel outies.

The jumper is for one battery, yes.

I made that mistake when I tried to switch to the new axles, jsut bought the center sliding bit and it was too loose. fell right out.
