Cool Turning a Power Wheels into an RC...

This is NOT the build thread... that will come later.

    I am posting this to see if anyone else has done this;
basically for guidance, encouragement, and suggestions.

I think I have figured out how...
I just need to order some parts to do it.
    (and find the money lol)

    2 Titan 550 21 turn eMaxx motors
    (maybe twin DeWALTs)
    1 EVX2 with LVD
    2 2S LiPo batteries
    1 Servo tester
    1 6 channel Rx
    2 Rx switches
    2 12 cluster white LED
    2 12 cluster red LED
2 SPST switches (Manual LED, Fans)
    1 SPDT switch (Tester/Remote)
    2 PC fans
    1 340ish inch ounce 1/8th scale servo
    1 Heavy Duty servo saver
    1 Standard servo
    1 Standard servo saver

I am hoping to be able to control it not only with the remote but for the kids to be able to drive it without the remote as well. A little complicated, but that is part of the fun.

The Titans (or DeWALTs) will power it through the EVX2 and the LiPo's. The servo tester will be hooked to the pedal so that pressing the petal will slowly add juice to the motors as it will control the ESC. The 6 channel Rx is so that the steering servo can be operated [1], the ESC controlled [2], the LED's can be switched on and off remotely and manually [3], the "engine" on the Power Wheels can be turned on and off remotely and manually (it shakes) [4], send power the fans manually only [5], and operate the steering servo disconnect [6]. Speaking of steering servo disconnect, I plan on having a servo disconnect the steering wheel when in remote mode so that in normal mode it will not be stripping out my 1/8th scale servo... the kids can turn it all they want and not hurt a thing.

    Sooo... what do you think?

    EDIT:
I see I will need to figure out something for reverse when in manual mode... hmmmmm

This project is going to be awesome....however I think you should use something a lot beefier than twin titans, especially if you want it to pull your kids around. I think the way to go would be dual mamba monster 2200kv. I know that would be really expensive but it would be the optimal setup.
Then you could use two 6s batteries. (One to each esc).

You do realize that the motors that are currently in the Power Wheels are actually weaker than the Titans?? The muscle actually comes from gearing... and anything close to 2200Kv would destroy the gears.

16 and no money? No excuse! I am 32... and support my hobby from outside of the family budget/income. Odd jobs is where the RC/project money comes from.

lol. i know i need a job. im getting one in a few weeks. the problem is that i need weekends off in the summer. you might want to look at strengthening the the body with a chassis of some sort instead of the unibody design

The unibody design is strong enough for what it will be used for... after all; this is still just a toy for my kids. My very young kids... my daughter is 2 and my boy is 2 months. Basically, instead of pushing my daughter in a stroller to walk down to the park; this will be used to transport her... and teach her where and how to drive.

    Daniel-
Something very much like that... but with stock power. lol
I actually think the Titans will push it faster... so the DeWALT motors will get it going even faster yet.

Too bad they are not easy to find...
I was able to get 2; a VW Bug and a Jeep for $55.
And I am going to be selling the stock batteries and charge system, so I will get most of that money back. lol

Take it from experiance, don't use CC2200s. My buddy and I built a silverado and we tried twin MMM/2200s. The gearboxes gernaded almost instantly. I think the titans will be just fine. We used some no-name silver can motors and got arround 17-18 mph. After a few years of modding the silverado project went a bit mental and turned into a full on gas powered RC beast. We used 2 1/4 scale servos for steering at first but they kept burning out. We switched to a linear servo that has been lasting. The linear servo would work for you but they are expensive.

What servos where you burning out, specifically, jailbird?
I would rather not put $300+ into a servo. lol

    TT:
If I were going to put that much into this PW: Shoot me. Shoot me please.
For that price I can build an electric go cart. lol

    Zonda:
    That is definitely cool.

I remember seeing some how-tos online that showed how to build a larger servos, so definetly check those out. I am interested to see how this goes. I remeber there were some threads here before where other people did this, but they never got finished.

Also, someday I would like to rc a gokart. I've already done it to a gokart motor, I just never figured out the servo part of it.

I finally got it running yesterday...
Man, the mice really chewed up a lot of the wire!

Anyway - Found out I needed parts to get it going... new pedal switch has been ordered.
