Finally got my Rad 2 back home

After a year of waiting, and watching my buddies kids bash and break my old Rad 2, I finally got it back.

How about....it still works!!! Bought it in 1992 and raced in TSA regional, state and national competition for 3 years. upgraded the chassis in 1995 and finally upgraded the motor and ESC in 1996. Here it sits as I last modified it.

You can bet its not going to look like this for long.

    Glad to have 'er back

Beautiful. Clean her up and get her back to the track. What motor do you plan on using?

havent thought about it too much but an XL-5 isnt too far from reality. I'll have to do some research to find out what is out there for ESC and motors....I have been too long out of brushed racing.

    Suggestions?

    Great looking Rad!

What would you be looking to get out of it speed wise?

Speed isn't my goal with this one, I have plenty of those. I want something that won't over power the car and something dependable.

You can drop the VXL internals in the transmission. It can handle brushless.

Thanks Emaxx - I think I am going to make this a mild ride...if I go brushless, I'll need to convert the suspension and steering to handle the speed. I havent got the money for that right now and besides that, it will then become a bandit and no longer a Rad2.

SOOOO, with that said, Is there a mild brushless system on the market for cheap or anyone know of a brushed system that I can put in it for now? Everything works so far. I have an older dynamite ESC and I think i have a Chameleon brushed motor. Now that I have WAY more knowledge of RC cars, I may tweek this car to get it set up better...perhaps the motor/ECS combo will do the job for now.

    Still taking suggestions

You can always run a 17.5 or higher brushless if you don't want insane speed and power.

Believe me that car can handle a VXL on 2s easily.

I picked up a speedgem 17T double modified motor today....we'll see what that does for me.

I also grabbed a rustler/bandit bulkhead. I am thinking about changing the A-arms to the bandit arms and see how that works out. That Idea is still up in the air...I have a set laying around collecting dust so I might put it to use. We'll see about that. If I do, it will no longer be a "Rad 2" so I do know about it

    Input?

WOW, without the battery, this car weighs less than 3 lbs! the springs are too heavy for it! LOL

Anyone have the "Blue springs"? they are suppose to be lighter weight

The lightest you want is red springs. Blue and greens were mainly design for oval 4cell racing. I run all reds or even purples on my stocks with lipo.

i have decided to store the stock parts for now so I dont break them and I am going to do a conversions. I am going to use the Nitro Rustler arms, bulkhead, towers.....blah blah blah.

sticking with stock tires....if I can find some. If not, I guess I'll be building a bandit....sign!
