    I think i'm getting a SUMMIT soon :)

hi guys, i'd decided to join the club, lol. I traded my ERBE roller for a summit roller minus the body, servos and RX/TX.
my Q's is, is it possible to use my VXL3s ESC to power up a MAKITA 14.4v brushed motor? can it handle the weight of the truck? will it stress the ESC? i know everyone recommend the DeWalt motor but i thought i try something different. i tried to hook up the motor to the esc last night and it seem to be working good. anyway heres the video.

i would say most run 4s to the dewalt, vxl barely likes 3s

You can run it with the vxl 3s but the motor will be weak because the most I would use with that setup would be a 2s lipo.

What are the dimensions on the Makita like? I tried a motor out of an old Porter Cable 14.4 cordless. It would not line up even close

    Good luck!

I really think the motor would overheat the esc, it wants more than the esc can handle

Has anyone tried the new brushless dewalt drill motors? Wouldn't that give you more power?

That motor looks remarkably close to the Titan 775. If the holes line up I'd say give it a whirl. (or if you can modify the moor mount I fit) The esc might be a little on the small side.

Makita has used 775 motors for a while in some of their drills. The first motor I powered "in anger" in my Summit was a 12V Makita RS-775VF and it came out of a drill older than most of these forums' constituents. That said, it smoked a bit rather quickly and the stock motor which I had pulled immediately upon receiving the Summit (figured I'd run the Makita into the ground first) went back in. You'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the two motors.

@humayrayakongkinaon: The "problem" with the Makita motors I have seen is that like the Titan 775 but unlike the Dewalt series, they are not rebuildable, meaning you cannot replace the brushes or the bushings. (Dewalts have replaceable bearings.) Then again, if motors are lasting a year or even two or more, I'm not sure how much durability should factor into the equation.

FWIW, this is the Makita version of a rebuildable 14.4V motor. Looks like it may be a direct drop-in.
    Check the price.

    Dewalt version, same retailer.

I know they're having their break there by your brake drums. No, you're not invited.

It looked something like this old-style motor?

I've tried them but I won't be much help because they are in my drills which do have plenty of power.

Tekin RX8 ESC can run brushed and brushless systems. I picked up a RX8 ESC for $175 shipped off eBay. Again just my $0.02.

yeah i know it can run either both brush or brushless but its way out of my budget for now. if i want later to change this into a sensored brushless i might consider getting this http://www.rcecho.com/HOBBYWING-XERU...mbo-ME231.html

That setup should work well. And I think it will install with no mods.

You'd have to hit the Dewalt with a sledgehammer to dent the can.

Holy CRAP what a horrible job of gluing!! I'm sorry to see that's what you ended up with. I'd be so irate if I were you.

As far as fixing the glue job, look up on this forum and youtube "how to remove RC tires from wheels" and there are a few tricks out there, pick whichever one works best for you.

I would not be a happy consumer at all. Are those wheels as far out of round as they look? If so they may not be salvageable. It seems you took one on the chin.

If your gonna paint them black just get a can of easy off oven cleaner and remove the chrome. The plastic underneath is smooth and glossy, plus you won't have to worry about paint chipping.

Nice job. I am glad you got 'er done.
I have never taped tires for my Summit since I prefer them to be as pliable as possible and because neither the Titan 775 nor the Dewalt is a speed demon. If I were to go BL in my Summit, I'd have to reconsider.

Great job indeed! Sucks that the glue residue is still on the tires, but certainly a great fix indeed!

How long did you let the oven cleaner sit on the wheels for? I'm going to do this myself, but I haven't been to the store in ages looking for oven cleaner haha. Seeing how clean those wheels came out has finally pushed me over the edge, I'm doing it!

i'd be happy if mine can get up to 35ish lol. i dont know why i consider taping it when i'm not realy going to use this for speed run, but something was telling me to go ahead and try it anyway, its my first time taping tires and it turns out great!!!!

looking good there, i like the way the wheels came out with the over cleaner, nice trick there. makita drill motors are pricey dang. almost as much as the drill its self.
