Jato transmission gears are plastic and do not require oil or grease.
LOL I love this topic... I looked in to putting greese in my slayer's transmission and I heard that it will attract dust and dirt inside the tranny and then it would leak out. But, most of the particals in the transmission come from the gears them so lubing them won't hurt at all. Well, to heck with it all, and I used OIL not greese, so when I flip my car over I can hear the oil sloshing around inside of the transmission. To fix the leaking problem, I just put it all back together, then I used RVT silicone gasket maker and sealed up the two tranny halfs so the oil won't leak out. Then I put the oil in it and it hasn't leaked out any oil in it since I put it in 3 months ago. I took the transmission apart last week to put the shift adjust ment screw back in (I screwed it out too far ) and all of the oil was still in there with no dust or particals in it what so ever. I know what you guys are thinking... OIL? ARE YOU CRAZY?!? No, I'm not crazy, it keeps the bearings all lubed up and it moves around inside the tranny case so it just doesn't get flug off of the gears and stick to the sides. So, yes, I would greese up the tranny if you feel it needs it. I did...

^^^ i join my voice and support what said above.
i'd never opened or replaced my trany gears, but the logic says that there's no way that gears will left by the manufacturer without minimum lubing. as long as there's a contact between any gears of any kind there should be and must be some sort of lubing.
I asked Traxxas Support if I can put Traxxas #1647 grease in the tranny of the Jato and they told me it's fine!
The gears are self-lubricating and if they needed lube then they would come lubed from the factory. Putting a little bit of grease on the gears does not hurt but I don't see the advantage to it. I've tried it only to have a mess to clean up; no difference in wear or increased performance.
In addition, this topic--complete with Wolf's post verbatim--is in the T-Maxx forum. Snook Man posted a reply and with his extensive knowledge regarding transmissions amongst other things I would trust him.

I plan to put a drop of lube on my HR HS gear set. However I will use something boroughed from bikes. Its called White Lightning dry wax lube. It goes on wet, but dries into a lube wax coating. Its used on bike chains to keep them lube and clean, the stuff expels dirt.
It doesnt make a mess like greese, I just coat lightly and let dry, everything rotates nice and smooth, as it wears off it leaves a lil wax at the bottom of the trans (I use it in my Savages) nothing serious.
