I've always had good luck with the Marine Titans, so long as they were well-maintained. But if you want a little more speed, you could run E-Revo Titans.

I don't know of any metal drive gears, but you shouldn't be stripping teeth if the gear mesh is set properly. Does your Villain have an aluminum motor mount (if it was an IV converted to EX)?

The Marine Titans don't seem to like 16.8 v , I've gone thought 3 in the 1-1/2 yrs , doing the lube every other run , I set the mesh while running the motors . Loose , no drag on spur gear . Hv the Villain EX boats .

Any estimate on the number of runs you have had on them?

I've never heard of setting the mesh that way. I always set mine so that there is just a tiny bit of backlash between the gears. Using a piece of paper between the gears works well too.

Maybe 25-30 runs on the motors. When i brake the teeth on the spur gears it's when i'm doing fast turns , like spinning it around at full throttle and the hitting full throttle again . I like seeing it jump out of the water . I also hv the 7.2v Villain with the Stinger motors and they are over 3 yrs old and still running strong .

Even for 16.8 volts, that is not many runs at all. On 14.4 volts, I get hundreds of runs out of my Marine Titans. There almost has to be something else going on here. What batteries are you running? Do you have water cooling?

With respect to your drive gears, my guess is that it's coming down to your gear mesh. I have (knock on wood) never stripped a drive gear, and I've got a lot of run time on one of my Villains. When you set your mesh that way, how much play is there between the drive gears and the pinion gears? I do the same maneuvers with my Villains and haven't had a problem. The only times I have had drive gears fail is when they were really old and the plastic part of the gear separated from the metal part of the gear.

Yes hv cooling to the motors and esc , I'm running Traxxas Series 4 Power Cell, 4200mAh (NiMH, 7-C hump, 8.4V) . I'm going to try the paper to set the mesh this time because i just strip out another spur today .
