Question cheap upgrades to make my 4tec a little faster

I just bought a used 4tec from a guy and its my 1st electric on-road vehicle.

So I was just wondering what cheap upgrades i can do to make it a little faster?

    Everything on it is stock.

I was thinking about getting the following,

    15t 540 motor(currently it has a stinger 20T)
    bigger battery(currently 6cell 7.2 1500mAh)

    any help is greatly appreciated.

i'm new to this, so be gentle.

What speed controller does your 4-Tec have? The chances are good that your current speed controller cannot handle a 15-turn motor. If you have the XL-1 ESC, you can run down to a 17-turn motor--even that would speed things up a bit! If your 4-Tec has a MSC (mechanical speed controller), then I'd upgrade to an ESC and go from there.

yeah it has a MSC, so i guess i would need to get a ESC. Any recommendations on a decent but not to expensive ESC for the 4-tec?

I would probably go with a Traxxas XL-5; then you would have the ability to run the 15-turn 540 motor that you want to run, as well.

A castle side winder would be a good brushless set up for your 4 tec. You can get the motor and esc for around 100 bucks and it will more than double your speed. I have a vxl system in mine.

Changing your gearing is the easiest cheapest way to upgrade.
The xl5 esc will work but the 550 size can is likely too big to fit.

I use the Hyperion 606 charger. Had it for years and haven't had any problems. It can do anything you need.
