# Thread: KV to Turns conversion

1. ## KV to Turns conversion

2. Turns were never standardized. And currently Kv is still standardized. So charts and formulas dont really say much. The best way to think about turns and Kv is as follows.

Kv - High = more rpm's
Low = more torque

Turns - High = more torque
Low = more rpm's

3. It does not add up.

My vxl will totally crush a 13.5 motor...

4. rag are you running 3s? There is also the gearing that will make a difference MP

5. I am wondering if this chart is really comparing apples to apples. If a driver is running a 550 can and not a 540 can does he have an advantage? Of course if a driver is running 3s and not 2s lipo's he has an advantage. 3s= 11.1 volt 2s=7.4 volt and a NIMH is 7.2 volt

I have witnessed the advantage on the touring cars that I run. lipo's will walk all over NIMH all day long using the same motor. I don't have experience of running 3s lipo's but there must be some advantage right?

6. It's hard to say how much advantage is gained using 3S, especially in a racing app. I could see where if I had a highly tuned combo, with the adjustable esc programming, I'd probably use the 3S tuned down to be about 10% more powerful than the 2 S pack, and start from there. 3S just gets hairy fast! Especially with those higher (3000+) kv motors. We're talking about 12.6 volts fully charged, lol. Depending on your setup, generally, the biggest advantage having the next bigger lipo is the wow factor and top speed

I totally agree, you get a "WoW" factor going from NiMH to lipo's and then from 7.4 to 12.6 look out
