    Lightbulb traxxas diesel conversion

new to posting in general. i have tried this product and highly satisfied with results. no more glo plugs or glo fuel. simple to convert/change head/fuel line/fuel cap o ring/ fuel type/connecting rod. traxxas easy start will also work with this.use a fully charged battery will give good results starting as the engine now has higher compression. engine compression is ajustable by simply turning a allen head screw on the top of the head . they do recomend a starter drive system and battery operated drill. how ever i used a electric drill. do not ,i broke the one way bearing in only a few starts. this led me to try using the easy start and it worked. as for tuning there is a learning curve, even if you have years of nitro exp. instead of going leaner to go faster you go richer and adjust the compression/ also called timing. after under standing the tuning procedure i became happy with the torque and power of the motor. best results performance wise will be to use a bigger clutch bell with more teeth and smaller spur gear. how ever stock gearing works well. this engine now makes a lot of torque and taller gearing will produce harder accelleration and top speed. advantages are no glo plug cost/uses almost one half less fuel than glo fuel/almost twice the amount of run time per tank full/longer engine life as rpm is maximum of about 15,000 rpm. disadvantages are/ you will have to change gearing if you want to do wheelies/fuel cost is more, but you get almost twice the running time as compared to glo fuel per tank full.cost of conversion is $130.00 for one traxxas 3.3diesel head/one super duty connecting rod $40.00/4 quarts special type diesel fuel $51.80/about $25.00 shipping/total cost of$250.00 approx. note /the fuel is not regular diesel fuel you buy at the local gas station. last, i would only recomend this conversion to guys that have a strong under standing of engine tuning. to obtain this product google rc car diesel conversion/or traxxas revo3.3 diesel conversion/you tube traxxas revo3.3 diesel conversion

That's awesome! Thanks. I've seen the videos and it looks pretty cool. I would love to see one run around here.

Interesting..but this doesn't sound like something you'd wanna do at altitude.

I'm afraid I don't get why you would want to spend all the money? Is it for engine longevity or more power? Is it just for fuel efficiency?

I've looked that over long ago but determined that I cannot forsee any cost savings. You have to spend money to convert it and then buy expensive special diesel fuel to run it and then gear it up as it runs less RPM's.

^ Yeah that's the issue. It costs more for less power? If you could buy diesel at the gas station and add oil then it would be nice. I just don't see the benefit. An in depth video from an actual owner would be nice. The only videos are from the manufacture in a parking lot. I want to see a bash/race video from guys/gals like us to sway my opinion.

listen guys, iam not trying to sway any opinons. i did the conversion so my revo is different from most other revos. for me, it was not about the cost, it is about having a real diesel powered rc truck. as for less power, dont kid yourself. this engine now has a totaly different power band as a diesel.after a couple of tanks of fuel i was running about 100 ft. more in distance at a considerably higher top speed. i do not have a speed gun to measure, possibly 50 plus mph, with stock gearing. now lets consider engine life, the fuel is oil based 40% keroscene, 10% ether, 30%castor oil, 20%fuel blender. glo fuel is nitro or methanol based fuel which is not a lubricant. better lubericant = longer life, how much,possibly100 +hrs. with out engine maintance or connecting rod failure. the manufacture told me he had a very similar motor run as long as 27 hrs. non stop when they finally shut it down. fuel consumption is almost twice the run time on same size fuel tank. glo plugs ,about $7.00 a piece, i have three nitro powered traxxas trucks, and sometimes glo plugs dont last very long $add up fast, you know, auhh the plug is fried again. any way i still love my nitro engines , there all fun.

Would definitely like to see that, would like some uphill comparisons as well to see the difference in torque too.

To the unknowing, if diesel is so bad how come Audi has won the Le Mans 24hr nearly every year since about '06 with heavy oil powered cars?

A lot of folks don't 'get' diesel, esp in countries where petrol is so cheap and diesel cars are few and far between. I'd love to be able to get a nice little diesel in one of my cars...maybe shoved into a unimog

My best friend who is a master mechanic swears by diesels and says you'd be a fool to use anything else..that's for real cars and I'm actually looking for my first diesel because of this..But I'm doing it for mpg's and will be mixing 50% wvo into it to save of fuel cost. For me to go this route for my r/c, initial cost would have to drop significantly. Also there would have to be a gain of more then "just to be different". As far as longevity of the engine is concerned, you can purchase nitro w/ higher oil %, and if you do regular maintenance (filter cleanings, proper engine, and vehicle cleanings) your motor will last a long, long time. Try not doing these things with the diesel engine and see how long it last. Real race teams do a complete rebuild after every race weekend and sometimes during the race weekend. This being said, I look fwd to the op's comparo video, sounds like fun!

I would do it if you could run bio-diesel. Then I would convert my electrics to solar (powered charger of course.)

    I like it either way!

I tear down and rebuild my electric quite frequently. I got that from watching Ironman and Toyota absolutely dominate for a decade.

As opposed to thick blue smoke! LOL! it would be a neat conversation piece though and a good truck for pulling weight or other unsuspecting trucks.

Yup, just trying to make a point to what we put are little r/c's thru on any given weekend..Dood! I too feel the same way about running green, I have often thought about building a small hydrogen powered monster truck, generator powered by solar of course..haha!!
