    and thanks

it took sooooooooooooooo long to mask that body off

no joke it took me a good 6 hours of almost strait masking with all the small pieces in the roll cage section and above doors and whatnot.

Ken, that rrp pinion requires a different size allen key than the 1.5mm that came with the truck. If you use the 1.5, it will strip the pinion grub screw, and ruin the tool. I cannot remember what size it is, but I am sure someone will pipe up with the correct size. Many people strip the grub in the rrp and losi pinions because of the small size difference.

ok, not liking how long the front body posts are on my slash............... best solution?

thought about just cutting them down but i didnt know how far up they were already drilled and how i would properly drill them deeper if it came down to it.

    thoughts?

I have cut my body posts down pretty low when my slash was in the backbajr form, and I didn't have any problems with threading the screw in, so cutting them would work as long as you have the right size screw.

wouldnt it be the same size screw i imagine? the one that holds the body post on to the shock tower now?

    finished body continued

installed some zip ties on the body clips to make it a little easier to get ahold of them

i also switched over to a 20t pinion from the 19t. still running the 86t spur so that takes my gear ratio from 4.53:1 up to 4.3:1 for some more top speed but still under the stock gearing by 3t on the pinion gear.

The same screw would work fine probably for your application. It depends how short you cut the posts down before the screw would be too long.

With traxxas plastic body posts, if the hole is not there after the cut, drill with a 3mm bit. The threads from the stock 3mm screw will thread in fine. Never had one pull out. Before I had a drill, I would use the smallest flat head from a jewelers driver set to make a hole, and the stock screw would thread in with not much force.

cool, will have to keep that in mind.

so today, well yesterday now that im posting this my esc and motor, and even battery were getting pretty warm with the gearing i had on it. my gearing was 86/20 which is a ratio of 4.3:1 well i never had a problem when my gearing was 86/19 at a ratio of 4.53:1. so with that being said i think im going to go back to the 90t spur for gearing of 4.5:1 just to be on the safe side.

heres some video though. this was almost dead on 4500mah nimh 8.4V

    uhh ohhhh.................... lipo time

for warning now. the quality of the vid is not 100% because it is off a phone (usually not a problem with mine) but it was starting to get a little dark outside so i think my phone was basically trying to use like a night vision mode to see better which blurs under way slower movements than normally. but try to enjoy anyways. lol

and i have one more uploading right now.

    edit: heres the other video

ok heres the damage report/pics from my first bash session

crack in wheel well of passenger front wheel

paint chipping and or rubbing off the body on passenger side

rear tires hitting the inside of the wheel wells (passenger side)

rear tire also hitting wheel well on (driver side), and cracked body by tail light

paint rubbing on the driver side

and if you can see it look at the shock tower wear the camber link conects. yeah........ its broke............ thats the passenger rear wheel.

ok, heres how i solved my broken esc mount problem

.063 gauge aluminum i had laying around.

    cut a 2 1/8" X 2 1/8" piece out of it.

little fitment idea for everyone. heres the length

    width

center line which somehow didnt end up strait and center???? along with center punching the metal where needed (for drilling)

center punch line up with hole in the back by shock tower

    front center punch line up

    holes drilled

and aluminum mounting plate mounted up on end with tab already broken off.

    continued..........

cleaned up and lightly sanded the bottom of the esc to get a good clean surface

the mamba jamba of double sided tape

covered the bottom of esc perfectly with 3 strips

sticky time..... dah nah nah nah, na na, na na, sticky time...........

ok so last night i was going to cut down the front body posts but after seeing the tire marks in the rear i decided to just raise the rear since i realized i could lol. so glad theres not such a body lean all the time now, that bothered me. the front is still a hair high but not enough to concern me right now anyways.

so after the little bit of everything being warm the other day i switched the gearing up again. im now running a 20T 48P pinion still but running a 90T 48P spur instead of the 86T. bringing my gearing to 20/90 or 4.5:1 instead of the 4.3:1 gearing. now what i cant figure out is the motor seemed to be hotter with this gearing vs. the old but the esc was cooler. (no temp gun, just by feel) but i also thought the motor heat might have been from the constant stopping and going so i didnt get to concerned yet. i was litterly for all 25 minutes of runtime accelerating down the road. then braking, turn around, and then do it again.

and i also learned that my 2 cell lipo will make my slash do wheelies with this gearing heres the rear bumper lol

thanks that esc plate wasnt to hard to make really either. more time consuming than anything else.

i like the idea of a wheelie bar but i also dont want to lose the rear bumper at the same time. if possible i would really like to just find a way to attach some wheels to the rear bumper one on each side so the bar is wider and more stable yet i still have protection of the rest of the bumper.

has anyone done this? can i see pics if so? or do you know of someone who has pics you could post?

    thanks everyone.

called traxxas today, asked what was safe operating temps for the motor............ they said they can safely opperate up to 170-180 deg. F. after checking mine today with the 90/20 gearing i hit a max temp of 124 F.

    now the debate............

keep the "wheelie" gearing of 90/20

    or...........

go back up to a higher gearing for more top speed, but no more wheelies?

The Losi ten scte shocks are a great upgrade if you are looking to bash or just drive around with the slash(they are the same as the ten t). They also are fairly reasonable. I got a pair of front shocks off of eBay for $26.

ok i was looking at the ten-t shocks and i have a question. do i want fronts for my front and rears for my rear? or do i want all fronts? all rears?

edit: the springs i was talking about would be like the proline power stroke shocks have. could i use the spring assortments from them for the ten t shocks?
