uh oh... hope its not too bad.

ok so ran the p4de on the beach yesterday. near end of first 2s pack i noticed i had no reverse. stopped truck doused it in clean water and let it sit for a bit. also threw some new batteries in the controller.

put 2nd 2s pack in and started driving again. everything was back to normal. then probably 10 minutes into the pack something went wrong. hit the brakes and heard a clunking sound. drove truck over to me and heard a high-pitched whirring noise. then no forward or reverse. rinsed truck off with clean water and when i got home washed it off and drowned the truck in wd-40 because i'm not sure when i'll be able to do a full tear down.

any advice on what my potential problem could be? I'm thinking something gear related or slipper clutch issue.

thanks and sorry for all the noob questions but this is my first real rc.

check your spur gear and pinion first, then clutch, then diffs. Usually the spur is the issue in most cases. Replace the rubber piece on the clutch as soon as you can. Mine wore out in 20 packs, and I was eating spur gears left and right. Teaxxas makes an aluminum replacment.

If it isn't the above, your motor could be broken.

Take the motor off but keep it plugged into the ESC, turn it on and hold the motor in your hand and grip the pinion with your index finger and thumb, give it a little throttle.. If the pinion won't turn under load then your rotor magnets are loose from overheating.

You can actually just take the gear cover off and see what the problem is, 1 little screw. If the gears are meshed, turn it on and give it throttle, watch the pinion and spur, report back

no prob, yeah it shouldn't be the motor unless you let it get scorching hot at the beach which isn't very hard to do on sand with the stock motor

Finally had a chance to take truck apart and discovered my spur gear was nice and smooth. All the teeth are pretty much gone. Ordered a new stock one. 54T correct? Getting a clear cover as well.

Any suggestions to make it slightly stronger in there without damaging motor?

Wish I had a lhs nearby. Need someone to take me through all the maintenance steps. I've read the manual but I learn better by doing. There is a bunch of sand inside there. I'll try and toss a pic up later.

    54 yep

If you mesh the pinion and spur snug, you shouldn't have the teeth grinding off the spur

Can you give me the part number for that clear gear cover ? I want one

    Clear cover traxxas# 6877A $4.19 on a main.

Here's what it looks like now. Think it may have been slightly out of mesh before I ran on the beach.

Your center bearing froze up and melted the plastic bearing support. Threw it all out of whack. That is why your spur gear is shot in the pic above. All that sand in there...yuck! Before you do anything, pull it all apart for cleaning, then you will see the damage at the center bearing.

nothing seems frozen, everything still spins with relative ease (probably move better once cleaned). i think it just came unmeshed and wore down the spur gear. running on 2s in the sand. may also not have had the slipper adjusted right. tearing whole truck down and cleaning thoroughly as soon as i get a chance.

If you're running at the beach again make sure to seal any small cracks around the gear cover and center driveshaft cover. You might even want to cover the drain holes incase sand is spitting up into them but I don't know if that would be a good idea or not.

you can use silicone, shoegoo, liquid tape, or pretty much anything that will hold for the beach bash at least. The sand must have grinded the spur up and possibly ruined the mesh for you.

Ordered one of those overcoat thingys, outerwears truck shroud. Hopefully it'll help with the sand.

Amain. Or google outerwears chassis cover.

And I think it is made specific for p4de chassis.

Still think the black plastic bearing support is damaged from a seized center bearing. Its just a couple of screws to pop te rear suspension off to get the diff out to check... Sand is horrible for that bearing.

No seized bearings. Probably could use replacing but after cleaning they spun with relative ease. Not great but functional for now. Just have to charge the batteries and adjust slipper and I'm back to crashing, I mean bashing.
