Mini Digger Upgrades

I have done many upgrades to my sons 1/16 Grave Digger and I always have trouble getting all the answers I need. This means many upgrades result in multiple trips to the lhs. This thread is to share upgrades and help others trying to build this truck to its true potential.

Upgrades to my sons truck include
* 4x4
* 2.4ghz TQ radio
* Dual steering servo
* Velineon VXL 3m
* RPM green A-arms

Thanks! We installed the Velineon and the new lipo so my son decided to attempt a triple backflip The result was a trip to the lhs to get new a-arms... I cant complain after all I taught him how to drive

Thanks! I think the green really makes it look more like the Digger. We do have a wheelie bar for it but my son ripped it off during a freestyle demo with our local Monster truck racing club... I am looking for a better one or possibly a way to beef up the Traxxas wheelie bar

Do you use an another stock steering servo or some other one to make the dual servo upgrade?

From the pictures, it looks like he used dual 2080 servo's.

Thanks! I used a 2nd 2080 stock servo and you will also need a steering arm kit part #7043 to finish the install. There are other servos that will work but I chose to stick with the stock servos because they are waterproof and my son likes to mudbog his Digger

Thought we had a faulty 4 day old esc last night... The truck just quit while my son was driving it and the led on the esc was changing colors and flashing randomly. I called traxxas and they told me to send it in for a replacement (best customer service in the buisness) I started to tear the truck down this morning and decided to test the esc one last time with both steering servos disconnected and it worked so I plugged one of the servos back in and it worked too, next I unplugged it and plugged in the second servo and the esc would not turn back on... I found the problem!! We decided to go to a new jobsite and give the truck a good bashing to see if the problem was really fixed. The esc was fine and we discovered the Digger is a 4wd hill climbing machine with the new Velineon motor and lipo power!!!

Color is almost perfect. The Traxxas green is just a tiny bit darker but you really need to look hard to notice...

More upgrades to the Mini Digger Gettin ready for this weekends race...
The speed that comes with the VXL showed us how much play was in all of the linkages and axle carriers in my sons Digger... It was almost impossible to run a straight line at speed. The first step I took to help tighten things up was to replace all of the plastic hollow balls in the toe links and push rods. I replaced them with the metal hollow balls (#7028x) This helped a lot but the stock axle carriers were also worn out and had way too much play. I decided to go with the RPM axle carriers molded in green of course. I know many people on the forum aren't crazy about the RPM carriers but my lhs keeps them in stock and I didnt have time to wait for HR aluminum carriers to be shipped (we have races this weekend) We took the truck out for a good bashing and I could not be happier with the tracking of the truck It will run a straight line again!!

I also taped the tires while I had the truck torn apart. It seems to have helped out but time will tell...

The last thing I did was replace the shock oil with 60wt in an attempt to get some of the bounce out of the suspension. It has helped a lot but I think I may try a little heavier oil in them... We will see how the truck handles this weekend while racing and jumping scale crushed cars

Yes I had to use a different motor mount, trans plate and spur gear cover. Good luck with your build!
