You should have a light brown tinge to it; that appears to be running lean. How much of an idle gap do you have because the idle screw looks pretty far out.

this is my engine not a 3.3 but what its suppose to look like not burnt looking like how yours is.
your running too lean you need to richen it up. good idea to start back at factory settings.

Just take a rag with some WD-40 and wipe it off, the residue won't hurt the engine.
Like Mike said, re-set to the factory carb settings, or before doing that try richening the high-speed.

Don't use a wire brush that will scratch every thing.

to clean the stuff off do as chevy mentioned though its really not neccesary to do just reset needles and go from there just make sure your not running lean again, a constant lean run will shorten the life of your engine can sometimes only last 1 gallon if your not careful. search each nitro forum and you'll see tons of threads about tuning and safe temps. i would get a temp gauge if you think temps are going to be a problem though it is recommended anyways i dont have one i have only ran lean maybe once but that was all temps maybe around 260F tops on mine.

ok i will just richen it up and see but i have a temp gun and my temps were usually between 250 and 270 deprnd on the day is that not good ? cause it seemed when i would richen it up more than where i had it it didnt want to run good just kinda bog down alot . could it be caused from the way i had it set with the idle screw out so far that i was over doin it to get it ti idle good thet i was creating the lean condition?

Don't run by temps, but 270 is a little on the high side especially if you are using nitro % over 20%.... Higher Nitro % you should be running slightly cooler.

return to factory settings, tune in this order with no more than 1/2 a tank
    1. HSN
    2. LSN (use the pinch test)
    3. return to HSN and fine tune.
    4. set the idle.

Sometimes you might have to tweak the idle screw in between, and always do a full Wide Open throttle pass in between adjustments... This will regulate the mixture changes you made at the carb and the casing of the engine.
    Tuning sticky... http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread....&goto=newpost

Rule of thumb higher nitro % burns cooler, it can fool the operator when tuning if the operator is tuning thinking of the temps they used to run at with lower nitro %... Don't do that. .

Use that temp gun to get it in the ball park, follow that tuning sticky in the FAQ section and let smoke trails & performance be your guide... The most common mistake with tuning these things is not understanding the relationship between the LSN and the HSN. I think in this case pictures speak louder than words....

Morgan fuels are excellent, Cool Power is good fuel... Temps.... Like I said between 200-260... Just follow what I said about tuning your engine fully and paying attention to that LSN... Everything else will fall into place...

Also, this is your first nitro? Then you probably had a learning curve with the tuning... Most do. Probably when the dark coloration was created...... Most who go into Nitro's, their first engine does not last as long as their others as they have cut their tuning teeth on it....
