    Low gearing on 3s lipo cause temps too go high ?

    17 pin 86 spur gear--temps gets up too 171 after 15 mins off bashing with few speed runs in between-

    171 is quite high, but still not too high.

    Thats high for that kind of gearing...I run 23/76 and get 130F on 2s.

    Tell us a little bit more about your truck. What ESC/ Motor are you running? I've run 19/83 on 3S and my temps got up to 160* but that was mid summer @ 100*^. You have a few options to cool the temp down some. Get you a heatsink or alloy tranny case. The case helps a bunch.

    You can also gear down a tooth and that will help out. 16/86 should be fine on 3S.

    That 3S will run temps that high for the most part. If the truck seems to be 'redlining' a lot of the time, you may want to actually try gearing up a bit to stretch the power band some, add a little more top end speed and still be able to keep your temps around 170.
