    My T-Maxx remote start

Today i was thinking how i can make a remote start for my T-maxx and I have a very old ezstart like this but just only the black box and a sub micro servo like this and i was thinking how i can use all the old parts and i saw this video but i saw it was big for the car and i did my system:

    front view

    side view

    back view

wires(i needed to make the wires longer because the stock wires was short)

This system is more compact than the video's system

Maybe you are thinking this system add a lot more weigth and is better start the engine using the pull start and a glow igniter, yes i know that and i just wanted kill some time and make something different to my truck.
I put the battery in the front because i dont like much the wheelies, i like more the rock crawling and this modification make the truck with more traction in the front
Next time i am going to make a video

    Thanks for reading

Part you need for make the starter:

    Traxxas Control Box:EZ-Start. part: 4580

Traxxas sub micro servo. part: 2060

3 or 4 channel transmitter. (3 channel transmitter is only if you don’t have the reverse working)

    Zip ties. (longs and shorts)

Long Wires for make the stock wires longer.

DGB.. I know you like the heavy battery for rock crawling, but anyone else can just use a smaller lipo battery in its place and make the system even smaller. I have a bunch of 2200 2S lipos that are about 1/3 the size of that stickpack and lighter than a hump pack.. Lots of ways to go with this.. very cool idea.. I may use this one.. I like it... LOL

    Thanks for the suggestion
    I forget add that info
You can use a 2s lipo with a lot more mAh and have less the weigth than a nimh. The lipo is just alot better than a nimh. I am using a nimh just for add weigth for the rock crawling

This is a list of the Traxxas LiPo batteries you can for the starter, but you need this adapter for the starter.

    • Part Number: 2820 :Total Capacity (mAh): 2200
    • Part Number: 2840 :Total Capacity (mAh): 3300
    • Part Number: 2867 :Total Capacity (mAh): 4200
    • Part Number: 2866 :Total Capacity (mAh): 3800
    • Part Number: 2868 :Total Capacity (mAh): 5000
    • Part Number: 2843 :Total Capacity (mAh): 5800
    • Part Number: 2869 :Total Capacity (mAh): 7600

All the LiPo batteries in the list have more mAh than the stock NiMH battery(1500 mAh) in the original starter.
I suggest use a LiPo buzzer or alarm like this.

    Update

Well I had a problem with my EZ Starter :

(Yep, I cut a piece. It was an adapter for the battery)

So I fixed the problem making a new circuit (Yeah... I have a lot of free time... ) :

If you need the manual for make the circuit i did... Let me know...

impressive.....but are'nt you concern of the extra weight on the truck? i've seen this guy using ROSS remote start on his revo 3.3 and you cant really tell that it has one on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhA9G...feature=relmfu

Well... for me, the extra weight don't concern me because I like the rock crawling and I dont like the wheelies (look post #1 at the end of the post) but I am working in a small Lipo battery for use as a hump pack and the starter battery at the same time

    Here is a blueprint:

The bec is going to be the Castle Creations 10A BEC
The battery is going to be this one
    And the LVA is this

I think I had to use a 500K Ohm Potentiometer to get my computer in my Van to see a 1V reading instead of the 5V Sent to the Sensor I had an Issue with, I did not think 1K ohm would drop from 7.2V to 1.5V. but then again I do not have a White ceramic 1K resistor on hand to test either maybe they work alot better then the crap I was using.

Believe or not, that resistor drops from 7.2V to 1.5V, but there is a question: Where is the other 5.7V? That is why the resistor is cover with ceramic...All the voltage is transformed to heat and the ceramic help to dissipate the heat...

Actually, I gave you a wrong and incorrect info...The resistor is 1.7KΩ and rated for 15W
    Here is a pic:

There says is 1.7Ω but I tested with my multimeter and is 1.7KΩ

Here is a pic with the resistor working:

*Interesting thing: When the resistance is warm, the Ω rating can low, and it can cause a different Ω rating. Example:The resistor is 1KΩ in an ambient temperature but when the temperature raises, the Ω rating low to a X quantity of Ω (depend of the temperature). That is why in the pic says 2.33V...Because before take the pic I tested the resistor.

    Lightbulb Update

After some researching about the R/C race tracks here, I found one and it wake me up the interest of racing, so I wanted to make something different to my remote starter and I bought the Losi R.O.S.S..

What is the R.O.S.S. module? Is like a small ESC and it control the motor from the starter and also give voltage to the receiver so isn't necessary use a hump pack or AA batteries... It only use 1 battery, A 2s Lipo battery. With the LiPO battery feed the servos and the starter system, so is lighter than the NiMH battery pack and has a linear voltage discharge..

    Pics...

    The LiPO battery:

The Lipo battery with a LVA (Low Voltage Alarm)...I know the R.O.S.S. module has a LVC (Low Voltage Cut-Off) but I think is way to low for my comfort

    R.O.S.S. module

    R.O.S.S. module another view

And the first thing I changed was the connector...The R.O.S.S. module had the EC3 connector I think and the Lipo Battery had the XT60 connector

The Lipo battery with the Traxxas HCC (High current connector)

R.O.S.S. module with the Traxxas HCC (High current connector)

I'm not responsable if you burn or ruin your Module, Motor, Lipo Battery...etc

    What you need:

    1-Losi R.O.S.S. module

2-A 2s Lipo Battery (Need to be more than 1000mah...Is like a fuel tank: More Mah = Bigger fuel tank=More run time)

    3-Charger for the Lipo battery

4-A Lipo Bag for charge the Lipo Battery (Is for safety)

    5-Switch for the R.O.S.S. module

6-Connectors... If the battery has different ones to the module (I like the traxxas connectors because has more grip and is for high current)

    Optional

    1-LVA (Low Voltage Alarm)

    Thanks for reading

P.S.:Later I am going to take a pic of my Lipo battery and the stock NiMH battery for see the differences of sizes...And Obviously a video for see the module working...

Here is the size comparison between the stock NiMH (6-cell 1500mah 7.2v) and the 2s Lipo Battery (2s 1600mah 7.4v 20c-30c):

But i need to say I am using that lipo battery and is for a Losi Mini...something and that is why is so small...

Is amazing how the Battery technology has advance since the invention of the rechargable batery...First was the NiCd then was the NiMH and now we have Lipos and is 1/2 of the size of a NiMH battery

hey guys.i just got done doing the losi remote start on my maxx.i did get nervous when I flipped the switch on my ross module and my servos powered up I thought something was wrong.but from what I see it is supposed to power the receiver.now my questions are is it okay that my receiver is being powered thru the aux channel(it is a spectrum receiver)and can I remove my humpback now that it is being powered by the lipo?are my servos going to be okay with the extra voltage from the lipos?thanks

Yes. No more hump pack. Ross goes into aux port, assign a switch to aux2p ( aux 2 position) and your off. Make sure when it fires u turn the switch off or it will keep Turing the start motor. If u have telemetry remote and recivever u configure it a lil different. The Ross goes into the bind port on the telemetry reciver and there is a special switch on the transmitter just for Ross so u just hold.it down and and when u let go its off.

    Hello,
super instructions. I have a transmitter with telemetry type TRA 6507 and go had it to do well. Just do not know how to connect, it will then work lelemetrie? The transmitter is a free port lever on top.
You have to turn on the switch before starting the revo model? There is a video witch you should visit.
    Sorry for bad English
