mainly alot of people turn the sport into rustlers for a few reasons, the rustler handles better and is a bit more durable than the sport. shaggy is the one you want for parts you want to change out to make it more a rustler to be durable, i know the shock tower pretty much on most nitro here are weak and need upgrading to either rpm or alum. but i perfer rpm to allow it to flex under load. another thing you can consider the front end to be upgraded its really not needed but more a bonus so you can run 12mm hex wheels on all 4 corners.

idk what you want one for just to play with or parts its got the same poor steering setup as a stampede and the good thing that i can see is the receiver is inside a box as opposed to just sitting on the chassis tires/wheels really what it looks like is (my first nitro) as basic as they come

steering on my nitro pede is real good since i changed out the 2055 servo for a 2075 and handles good now just maybe needs a little more widening is all and lower to the ground.

I am myself prolly gonna be bothering shaggy quite a bit in the next week or so as i ordered a set of street tires and black all star rims with anacondas already mounted. He does seem to be the guru when it comes to street rustys. The difference between a sport and a rusty from what I have seen and looked into is pretty much just upgraded parts on the rusty and a sport is a bit more of a starter nitro. I may be wrong wouldnt be the first time. In my opinion I would just get the Rusty as it seems to be a bit more sturdier for bashing and ruggedness.

I would say check e bay or possibly your LHS as they may know someone who is wanting to get rid of theirs. I found a Rusty with a .15 for $75 on ebay and I spent the extra money and dropped a new 3.3 in mine, it runs great just need a few upgraded parts for that kind of power change but all in all it has not been pain staking process just okay this is too weak and this needs changed but thankfully nothing that is super expensive or hard to find.

The nitro sport is a cheap knock off of a nitro rustler. It has a .15 engine and worst of all. A plastic/aluminum chassis. Although it does share several parts with the nitro and electric rustler/bandit/stampede/slash. The sport is intended (IMO)for total newbies. Save yourself some time and money. Just get a rusty. It needs less parts than a sport to make it durable. But if you was to buy a sport. To make it a rusty you would need upper and lower chassis, steering bell cranks, and steering links. Everything else roller related is the same. With either car, I highly recommend RPM everything possible. Especially if you step up to a 3.3 engine. You may want to start out with a 2.5 first. BTW, it handles nothing like a rusty vxl. The weight distribution of a N rusty/sport is not balanced like the VXL.

Me haha. U da man when it comes to rustys lol. I decided to back off from the nitro sport. Im actualy getting myself a jato. Im hoping i can do some of the same things as my rusty with the jato... Eeesh i may be dreaming there lol. But i remember how fun my jato was with offroad tires. That thing was insane. I found a few jatos im lookin at and hooe to have one in the next week or 2. What do yall think?

BOOOOOOOOOO Just say no to a jato. I actually havent been messin much with the rusty or the slutsler. Got bit by the slash bug. I am still wanting to unload the rusty. Thinking about just doing it as a roller. I finally killed the 2.5. It runs good until it gets warm. Then it looses all pinch. Just plain old wore out. PM or email me if you start thinking about a rusty. I have tons of stuff for it. All I want off of it is the servos. Everything else goes. Even have a flysky rx for it.

Thanks Screams, i'm glade you street truck is going good. Sorry I didnt get to this sooner. I been real busy with work. I would of also talked you out of a sport. lol The sport and pede have straight steering as opposed to the n rustler or vxl's bell cranks. Take a close look at your peed and rusty vxl and note how the servos are set up. I was breaking my servos in my peed but never in my rustlers. The bell cranks take the beating and protect the servo. As for engines, 3.3 all the way. No need for any other engine. I love my rustlers single speed so I would say save a little cash and get a rusty. The rustys trany is so simple an extremely reliably, even with larger engines like the 3.3. Theres great deals that come along all the time. I just sold a roller a few weeks ago all ready to go, w/ out engine for $85. If cash is an issue, the parts for a rusty are cheaper that jato parts. The rusty is also a little lighter. The Jato is an awesome truck but i'm a rustler guy. I think theres a little more you can do to a rusty. You really can set them up how ever you want. I'll show off my trucks to get you thinking lol.

Those are def nice n rustys lol. I still like the jato tho. More for street of course but im still thinkin about getting a n rusty. I had a n rusty before and it was nice all done up but the rear diff kept blowing and the shafts kept stripping on the inner part that goes onto the diff. Maybe it was an older model. I like the stampede and rustler now. They have a pin that goes through the shaft instead of one set screw on each side of the shaft. Nice pics btw

I'm not sure if the older diffs were made cheaper but I only stripped one diff out of 3 rustys and a n pede going on 4 years. Maybe I got lucky but I want to say the diffs are built rock solid. If your going for an on roader, the Jato is a great choice. The 2 speed loves nice long stretches of pavement. For off road, thats where the control of a single speed shines. My off roader has Jato arms and an extended chassis to make it about the size of a 1/8 scale n rustler. This build will eat up a Jato off road. Anyway, best of luck with witch ever truck you get. Let us know how she goes.

hi, the nitro sport pro .15 engine is trouble free it hold a tune really good the other trx engines always needs some adjustments, just install rechargeable battery a jato power switch, rustler steering, rpm shock towers, 2.4 ghz radio and you are trouble free for life, my tire were all worn down after 2 weeks and i used proline dirt dawgs and it holds, but I think there are better tires out there to use, my Nitro Sport even ran in to a river and went under, got it out dry off all the parts empty water from fuel tank exhaust and engine and it still goes, 1 1/4 gallon byron 25% and same glow plug.

The Jato arms will work on a rusty, pede or sport with a good amount of work. The whole mod will end up running over $60 and if you cut off too much plastic, it wont come out right the first time. I got mine right the first attempt but some of the cuts could look cleaner lol. The added leverage at each wheel for the extra width means you need strong parts to keep her durable. It becomes a bigger truck with the Jato arms so RPM parts are a must. I recommend starting with fresh bulkheads and RPM towers to make sure everything stays tight. RPM rod ends and 4mm turnbuckles (59-61mm long) are the best way to go for the camber and steering linkage. I'd get some extra springs, preload spacers and limiter clips cause you will spend hours tuning your suspension the first time you put her together with the long arms. To be honest, this mod ended up taking a total of about 16-18 hours lol. The outcome is amazing!!! I gave her a soft off road ride with a low gearing (18/70 or 72) and the thing would climb up stuff any other rusty or pede wouldn't touch. Combined with Powerman's extended chassis, big talon tires, and 3.3, the thing was unstoppable. Til the 3.3 blew up anyway lol Big block coming soon...

My buddy has the Jato mod as well. On a stock chassis its sick. He turned it into a buggy. He is running an OS 18tm on it and it flys. I guess there is something the jato can be used for. Buy A jato, take off the A arms and engine. Pitch the rest. LOL.
Shaggy, You have had it for a while. How do you like it? Any suggestions for improvement?

I found one on Ebay Shizcol for around $70. It had some old school stuff on it that I took off mainly just the old style crystal receiver and transmitter and an old .15 that I soon replaced with a new 3.3 i think all together including the rusty I have a little $250 in mine thats new engine, rx and tx and the 3.3 mounting kit plus odds and ends that need replaced when adding that much power.

Keep in mind when buying used trucks (nitro or elec), you have no idea what those motors been through. To be on the safe side, find a good deal on a roller and buy a new engine.
Powerman, I love the chassis. I might slim it down a little to shave off some weight but other than that its just what I wanted for that build. The truck went together just fine and holds together rock solid. Great work man!

Thanks Shaggy. Glad to hear its holding up. Shizcol's search is almost over. I will be trading him my Rusty. It will be a little sad to see it go. It has consumed so much of my time over the years. It like one of my children. But its time to move on to other intrests. Gonna send it to a good home.

Thats great Shiz. Powerman knows whats up with these trucks. I'm sure the rusty is in great shape and will run fine. He put allot of cash into that truck. Your going to love it. Just wondering, what did you trade for it?
The nitro and vxl do not have the same suspension. There very similar and work the same but the parts are not the same. The vxl has wider arms and hubs in the front wheels where the nitro has bearings in the f wheels. Putting vxl arms on a nitro rusty is a great cheap mod to make the truck a little wider. You can also use the vxl hub carriers and caster blocks to use hubs in the front of a nitro. The advantage of front hubs is a much bigger wheel selection. I know Powerman likes the hubs in the front so I think thats how its set up, I think. I'm pretty sure he did the whole vxl mod. I use the vxl arms and vxl rpm cambers on my street n rusty. Good luck

Well guys the deal has been completed. I have to admit that I am very dissapointed with the car he traded me for the rusty. The description just didnt add up to what I actually recieved. You all know how my rusties look. If you would see what I got you would throw up in your mouth. Its a sad day for me. I wont go in to great details because its not the place for it. Just heads up my freinds. Carefull with making deals. Some peoples mint is other peoples POOP.

If u really want to go there then let me add.. I gave u a truck that worked perfect when i had it. The lipos worked perfect when i had them.. I got a rusty that i have to buy parts for not to mention the motor thats fried on it. It needs rims and tires. The body is all beat up. And u wanna complain about a 25.00 lipo and a scratch on the esc.. Really dude?? I gave u a deal that stampede was well worth 200 Nd u were askig 150 for the rusty.. I even offered u keep somemof the parts on the rusty and u threw them in anyway. I offered to make it right and u went ahead and made this a big deal on public forums. Pretty childish. Ur the first guy i ever sell something to thats dissapointed.. I never said it was a shelf queen. I said it was to me in mint condition.. I guess inshould have mentioned it had a scratch here and there. I sent detailed pics of everything including the esc and motor and u wanted it. Maybe u should of looked closer at the pics before makig the deal .

I agree I should have looked closer. And Mint to you and mint to me is obviously very different. My post was not a bash toward you. And I apologize if I came off that way. My intent was to inform the people of the forum with being carefull with making sure they look at all the details prior to making a deal. However, You received from me EXACTLY what was described and you agreed upon. And then some. I was not that fortunate. I chalk it up as part of doing business. I am not going to throw stones at you. But you came up short on your end of the deal. Its not the $25 for a lipo. Or the fact that 1 of the 2 was bad. Or that it was suposed to be 3 packs. Its the fact that the car is not as described. Mint is same as new in my opinion. Not XL-1, XL-5, and VXL parts all meshed together. But thats my fault for not looking at the pics with a microscope. Pictures are worth a thousand words. I dont want anything else from you. As far as I am concerned the deal is done. I hope you enjoy the rusty as much as I did. Once you put the needed parts on it you will have a great car.
