Brief review of rcscrewz kit TRA043

I purchased these screws a few days ago through amainhobbies and just began the conversion.

It is not a complete set as advertised as it does not include the 3x12mm shoulder screws needed for shocks. I contacted manufacture and was rudely told that those are considered pins and if I had read the FAQ I would have known that. No resolution was offered and the response email was possibly written by a 10 year old using his mom's smartphone. Not sure if other screws are missing at this point.

Also so far 90% of the screws are too long. The screws appear to be good quality but the kit is horribly put together. Tons of screws but so far not the right ones for my stampede 4x4 vxl.

I purchased mainly to replace bent screws and since I drive by salt water often I figured having stainless wouldn't hurt. Sadly disappointed.

I checked out Tony's but couldn't find a Stampede 4x4 set. I am assuming the slash set is pretty much the same?

I got the Tony's screw kit for slash 4x4 and had the same issue. None of the screws are the same length as stock. Off by 1mm.

I've used tony's and rcscrewz for my 2wd slash and Pede's and neither kits were complete. There were a lot of screws in the sets but not all fit correctly.

Like mentioned above, none of the kits have specialty screws like shock mounts etc...

    But the product clearly states:

"RCScrewz Stainless Screw Kits are 100% complete"

    100% complete according to what?

Bad advertising at its best! Burns me up when i hear or see this kind of stuff.

Not gonna dispute that since I had somewhat of a similar experience. But I contacted him way back when, let him know of the discrepancy and he made it right and afaik revised his kit. I got a discount code for my troubles too.

And Tony's is very clear that the specialty screws are not included...

But really, off by ONE mm? You're kidding, right? There is not a screw in the vehicle where that would matter, either plus or minus. Here's another difference - I've measured the diameter of Tony's screws and have seen in general they are on the thicker side of the tolerance range too. Add to that the other difference that they are hardened (12.9) and yet I'm still not gasping and ready to exclaim, "Lions and tigers and bears!"

Oh, btw, I just research it and the tolerance for screw length is 0.51mm to 0.76mm, depending on length.

On the other hand, I'm still using screws from those kits on my Rusty build because I had so many extras.

Does anyone know why those specialty screws are not included?

Those screws are made specifically for traxxas. They are not an industry wide standard, so are not avail in bulk. My guess that tonys and rcscrews justs buys bulk screws, puts them in a nice box, and sells them for a big markup. Probably dont manufacture the screws...

Too true. If Sears Hardware or Lowes or HD bothered to carry ANY 3mm screws, I think the specialty sellers would be out of luck, and out of business. But since they don't and the boutique screw vendors make it so convenient, they do decent sales.

If someone wants a truly complete screw set, buying a take-off set on ebay is your best bet yet is not guaranteed to be 100% if what I have heard from various sources is true.

Are the specialty screws patented? Meaning, could anyone buy a bulk lot of them or had some made for resale out of stainless steel without breaking a copyright law?

If so I see a possible business opportunity for a smart feller.
