    Race MERV setup advice etc.

Hi, I'm converting my KB Fiesta to a merv because I find on road bashing to be completely boring and would rather play at the local off road tracks and hopefully get a mini class going. That being said, I want to build it into a competent race worthy machine.

Any other merv racers out there please advise me on set-up. I plan to run it on an 1/10 indoor high bite clay track. Its too bad these aren't raced more often as I would just go off of a set-up sheet...

    diff oils?
    Center diff oil?
    Shock oils? 50wt front/30wt rear?
    better wing options? Ofna?
most suitable body? (slipstream, illuzion, stock, TBG Truggy?)

I also run a 1/10 buggy on that track so, I'll have plenty of my favorite tires to choose from. (Losi BK-Bars, HB Beams, PL Suburbs, JC Bar Codes, AKA Rebar)

    Thanks for any info!

50k diff oil in front 30k in rear,50k in rear will get more action. 50k in the center diff 100k will transfer less power to the front wheels. probably upgrade the shocks to traxxas gtr minimum probably 80 wt oil stiffer springs in the back .

Thanks, 50! center diff is a must.
    So:
    -50wt front diff
    -30wt rear diff
    -50wt center
    -80wt shocks
    -black front
    -tan rear
    or
    -pink front
-black rear (Jang liked this combo better..)
    -CVDs definately
    -center driveshaft maybe
    -tie rods
    -steel balls
    -rocker/steering bearings
    -Speed Passion b/l system?
    -2s lipo
and I'll be running a Spektrum radio

That should be a fairly decent set-up.

So, I have the center diff and while assembling the transmission, I wondered if putting 125k oil will lock it enough to where it will not do wheelies. Wheelies would just make it uncontrollable and kill my line. I seen enough vids of merv being wheelie machines and want to prevent that as much as possible. Is my logic correct?

This thing should be done by August. I can't wait.

Actually 50k it will wheelie less than with 100k
If you go.with a mmp esc you could fine tune the power delivery

Yes MERV's do wheelie. If you loosen your slipper enough i dont think you should have a problem

I wonder if mini Slash aluminum toe links could double as MERV push rods? Probably won't have enough threads left on the thing to be truly secure. Anyone know for sure?

So, I just took the front diff out to clean and inspect and put in 30wt. Now that its back together, the axles don't want to turn in the same direction at the same time. However, if I spin just one axle, the other one spins in the opposite direction.

Also, the rear axles seem to spin forward and back at the same time no problem and I can see the center driveshaft spin up to the center diff and stops, the front axles don't spin at all while I'm spinning the rear axles. Is this normal?

still have a few parts left to come in:
    -TRX aluminum shocks
    -tan springs
    -Ofna wing
    -GH front skid
    -TRX bumpers
    -TRX mono wheels
    -TRX front axles
    -TRX push rods

The stock servo weighed in at 20g so, I added 20g of weight on the opposite side. I also plan on weighing the lipo battery vs. the esc and rx and add weight to either side as needed.

Local painter did this for me

Got it buttoned up for the most part. Ran really well at the indoor clay track, especially with the sway bars. I had to cut a bigger hole in the back to clear the sway bars. Only problem was not being able to clear the big double. It kept thermaling, so I added an Integy fan but, I have yet to test it to see if it can run a full 5 minute heat without getting hot. I'm going to experiment with a 1/10 buggy wing next.

Oh, for the lipo, I'm running a Gens Ace 1800mah 2s 20C. It weighs only 90grams compared to the Traxxas NiMh weighing 150grams.

Hey 50 nice Inferno. It probably does go faster. I'm only running a 13.5 with no boost!

    not much changed.
    added:
    black rally springs-rear
    gold barcodes all around

really gets around the track now. comparing a stock merv to mine is really apples to oranges now. I think I witnessed 1 wheelie with it. I've done more wheelies in the T4.1 so, I've somehow managed to tame the wheelies in the merv.

Here's how it sits now. Maybe eventually get an ofna wing if I feel like it.
