    Drifter???

Has anyone been able to make this thing a decent drift car? I'm talking like a real purpose built drift car. I have tried a ton of the things mentioned in the threads and I can not come up with any setup that will perform consistantly. Don't get me wrong ths car is tons of fun but I want to drift!

I have a pretty much stock Kyle Bush big block chassis that I picked up and stuck a Tacon 3900kv motor and drift tires and it's very predictable. You could always pick up a drift gyro to help stabilize it a little. The chassis is pretty short and the motor is up high so the balance is going to be rough no matter what. I have never driven a real rc drift car, but when I look at the HPI I can see the wheelbase to width is much longer and the weight is much lower.

Yeah I agree. It seems hard to get a decent drift setup. I like the one mod the guy did where he hacked the chassis and made a carbon plate, awesome work! I'm just trying to decide if it's worth putting more money into something and still not achieving my goal. My buddy has a sprint 2 and it's sweet. We are swapping cars after each pack. The rally is defiantly a great car and I am having a lot of fun with it. I've had it for about a month now and run about 20 packs through it a week. The best luck I've had was running T drifts on wet concrete and still only made maybe 1 in 5 corners. I don't know what do you guys think?

Try to pick up some hard plastic drift tires. The issue you're having is that the stock tires have too much grip. I run the hard plastic drift tires and they are a hoot. Though, I don't have a stock motor so pretty much any tire I put on there I could probably break loose.

Ultimately if you really want the drift car, you'll need to buy one. You could be very creative and do the carbon fiber chassis and lower the motor/tranny/esc/receiver. But in the end, the motor will still be a little on the tall side. You'd also be better off with the smaller 380vxl motor as well. The motor I have is too big and heavy.

well when I did the lower chassis myself the stock tires drifted well... but then I got greedy so I am now trying to reattach the front and rear halves of my car

Locked rear diff, softer front springs as the ratio is 50/50. T-drifts will be fine. Wider offset wheels =lower centre of gravity. Bit of toe out on the front will help transitions.
Some even lock the front diff or put heavier weight oil in. I run a front one way diff in my yokomo and now acts like a handbrake

I made some drift wheels out of PVC for my Mustang. LOVE IT... So much fun.. I made the rear offset more than front too. Looks cool.. Already wore through 1 set of rear PVC in 2 days.. Making 2nd set. Plus for 2 bucks for some PVC, and using some wheels already had. Cant beat it. You can reuse the wheels too. I used hot glue to hold them in. So i can take them out and reuse them any time i need to make new PVC tires..

Its pretty easy.. Just get some 26mm wheels. Get some 2" PVC. Cut to desired width. I did 1.5 inch for front and 2 inch for rear. Take dremel with sand wheel and clean the lip off on the wheels. Just to get them to fit into the PVC. Then i put a couple rounds of duct tape around the wheel where the tire was (after removing tire). That helps keep the wheel tight when you put it into the PVC. Then when you get the wheel where you want it in the center of the PVC. Hot glue around the edge of the wheel to bind it to the PVC. Then i sanded down the edge of the PVC to make it rounded. Then Cut some grooves in the PVC for traction. I will make another set and do Pics along the process and post. I originally saw a video on Youtube. Works GREAT....

Here are a few pics of the set i am running right now. I will do a "how to" when i do my next set.

I have the new Proline Camaro body on order. Will also have the Proline Fiesta body here this week. So i will be making a few more sets of these with different wheels.

Heres some pics of more of me fleet....

one question. does the pvc leave any skid marks on blacktop. were id be running at my friends house. his ole lady would be peod if there was white skidmarks all over the blacktop.

No worries.. Wasnt against you at all. Just odd rules to me.. Nah. No skid marks.. The PVC just comes off as dust. Works great though. And super cheap.

just wondering but have any of you ran the stock tires in 2wd rear? because 4wd in full scale cars has always been unwanted. because if its rwd you can give it more throttle to break it loose.

For drifting AWD is prefered because these arent full scale weight so u need the front wheels to pull the car ahead to keep the drift going. if u try and use 2wd with abs pipe (pvc is white and abs is black, it looks nicer haha) its gonna be difficult to drift, although u can achieve a drift just not a very sustained one and takes tons of practice.
For drifting tires, ABS pipe is generally preffered in drifting mainly cuz of the color (Drift cars tend to be very detailed) all u really need to do for the tires is cut ABS pipe to 26mm in width and force em on to the rim and put some electrical tape on the inside if it fits a little loose and maybe a drop of CA glue. I have NEVER seen the little cuts for traction so thats new...
