    Steering Servo

Just wanted to know if anyone had any experience or recommendations for a higher torque servo to install into a Stampede. Im currently using the stock servo that came with my truck.

    Thanks.

The Monster Jam ones come with the TRX 2056 servo:
    • 80 oz-in torque
    • Transit time 0.23 sec/60°

The upgraded Traxxas servo is the 2075:
    • 125 oz-in torque
    • Transit time 0.17 sec/60°

I actually just bought the 2075 for my Stampede (it started life as the old XL-1 Stampede) but haven't installed it yet. I also bought the OFNA OFN10760 heavy-duty blue servo saver.

I asked forum members for help in deciding and got a LOT of feedback if you look at the thread I started for this same question: link

Thanks a bunch Olorin. Theres one thing that im not sure of and maybe you could help, but i noticed that the 2075 is digital and the stock servo is analog. Will the 2075 be a plug and play operation or will i have to change my setup somehow to get the 2075 to work properly?

I've been told its plug and play. The only problem I'm having is I forgot to order the little white ring/adapter that goes from the servo to the servo saver.

I'm planning to go to the LHS this weekend to get one. In my collection of parts I have four of them but theyre all marked #2 and #3. I think I need the #1 adapter. If anyone knows, please reply.

Oh, I got this one... For sure! A Savox 1258TG. Its 67 bucks, BUT its metal (titanium) geared servo, and runs at .07 seconds and 166. oz of torque. After going in the metal geared servo direction, il never go back to plastic. It was my weak point before and plastic geared servo didnt match the rest of the truck. After I switched to metal geared servos, that was out of the way. Worth EVERY penny...

Nice thing about Savox, is u get specs ud get for half price. Say for example, the same spec servo from JR, or Hi-tech and it costs 130 bucks.

Absolutly love the thing, Also its digital. Highly recommended to go with a metal geared servo. 100x stronger.

I have several savox servos in my various trucks and cars, also a spektrum digital steering servo. The Savox that I am using in my Stampede was in the $30.00 range, cheap but still steel gears. All the Savox I have work great as does the spektrum. Sorry I have no experience with the Traxxas servo. If you are looking for an upgrade, look at savox mp

I also recommend a metal gear servo and it's a great upgrade. I'm running a JR Sport ST126MG it is metal geared with 142 oz. and speed of .17 seconds also it was $38.00 at my lhs. I personalty think the more torque the better as for speed I think you can get too fast and it make it harder to drive.

You have to bear in mind unless you have a external BEC the servo may not operate at it's full power. Depends on what ya esc can pump out.

I use a Savox 1258TG like LooT up there mentioned in my Sl4sh. It's an awesome servo, I had to run a glitch buster with it to keep it from having brown outs. The Traxxas 2075 are good Servos and are waterproof, they are just a tad slower then what you can get for around the same monies. In my Digger I have a 208oz Servo off eBay which has done a good job for $30. It has all metal gears and this guy guarantees them. He also offers a 244oz one to for $10 more.

When I upgrade the servo on MY slash I'll prob go with one of the metal geared ones recommended above. I got the 2075 with a parts lot that was a great deal and it'll be a huge upgrade from the stock servo off the old XL1 Pede, I think.

Regarding the external BEC, even with the high powered ones, i think the MMP can put out enough juice, can't it? My other ESCs are the Sidewinder SCT and older Mamba Max.

The VXL 3-s puts out BEC voltage 6.0V DC. If I had my Hitec servo this would not suffice. I have that using 7.4v to get the 400+oz of torque. But with the Stampede steering does not need to be so strong or accurate as in my case the front wheels never touch the floor! Hehe

Just ordered a Traxxas 2075 off e-bay for $20. Seemed like a good bang for buck deal plus its waterproof. Hopefully this will be a much better improvement over the stock 2056. Need to make sure those trenchers turn good!

^^ It's a good Servo. That will move the trenchers a whole lot better. It has 125oz vs 80oz the 2056 has.

Ive noticed while reviewing specifications for torque ratings on servos, that they are all measured at 6V. I currently have a CC Sidewinder SCT and i couldnt find any information regarding the BEC voltage. If my CC ESC has less than 6V BEC, how will the Traxxas 2075 servo operate? Also, im assuming the rated torque value will decrease?

Indeed. It will work but the torque will be less.

The castle esc's come from the factory at 5.5v. The 2075 will work just fine with that on a pede. I use them in my slash mt's with bigger heavier tires, and more ft weight bias. The 2075 has done really well for me. If you eventually do want to go to a mg servo, I would suggest a savox 0251. its around 40$ and will be perfect on any of the 2w or 4w traxxas 1/10(pede/slash/rusty) size trucks.

Exactly. My Pede is a wheelie monster and I love it that way.

I think I will go into castle link and up the BEC voltage to 6.0. Hopefully that option is available on the Sidewinder.

Darn it! Changing BEC voltage is not available on Sidewinder SCT or the Mamba Max. It is available on Mamba Max Pro, which I have on my Slash, so I will increase to 6V there, but I'll just have to run at 5.5V on the other two trucks.

Got the 2075 servo and 4x4 heavy duty driveshafts installed tonight. Hope to test drive tomorrow. Alignment isn't perfect yet but that's what trim is for. Was too tired to adjust steering links tonight.

Installed the replacement 2075 servo in my truck and what a world of difference. The steering is so much better and much more responsive. $20 well spent. Also, no issues with using my CC SCT ESC running at BEC 5.5V. Thanks for all the servo discussion!

Good to know felixx.. I was wondering about this upgrade myself but wasn't sure. My P2de seems to steer ok now, but I'm always looking for better handling to go a long with the speed the velineon puts out. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for on Ebay. For $20 why not right?

Wel spoken. U get the specs of something that would cost twice as much if Hi-tech, or JR. Btw.. The Spektrum Servos are made by Savoxs Than rebranded to Spektrum. lil Fun fact.

huh? I changed the BEC on my MMP. U might not have seen it, or need to update to the latest version. It was set stock to 5.5v. BUT... I was able to set it to 6.0v right there. U might have missed it. I imagine its the same with the SV2. Il be trying it out soon, and let u know.

Personally. Id rather just go for metal geared and stay there. I had issues with the Traxxas 2075. Purchased a gear replacement set, and next crash.. Boom. It was the weakest link on my truck for a while, now with a nice strong servo, I get alot less bench time, equalling alot more running time.

*edit. Went back and read that again, Missed the MMP part of things My bad. But yes, the MMP can adjust its BEC. 5.5 is still good. Ul get 85% or so of the specs avail on the servo.

My Spektrum. Not the mnost impressive speeds, like the Savox is, BUT.. 278! oz of torque. Its a monster! I can hold the front end down, on concrete, and turn the wheels back and forth, with very sticky mashers.. SUPER torque. Its terrific. I love the savox too. Its got super fast speed, and good torque. Hard to tel which is my favoite yet.

Once i put the Trencher 2.8's on the truck steering wasnt as good with the Traxxas 2056. It wasnt horrible by any means, but it was annoying enough to me that i wanted to improve it. The 2075 doesnt have steel gears and it wasnt something that was a "must have" for my application. And for $20 (brand new on e-bay), how could you go wrong? So yea, its a very good upgrade and i didnt have any issues running it with my CC SCT ESC running at 5.5V. Also, its the same size as the 2056.

Is the Savox noisier than the traxxas 2075? I have a couple Solar 771's and they are much noisier than the stock servo.

I have been checking out the servos on hobbypartz and nitro rcx. They have some mg servos with killer mid range specs for around $20. Like d226f exi that has .15 and 180 oz for under $15! Wonder if those specs are accurate?

I have a D226 on my Pede and it works pretty well but it noisier than any other servo I've owned, and I have to run it with a glitch buster (I use the novak 5626). I also have a couple solar D771's and they sound and perform similarly. Price is right but I have no idea how to test the strength or speed.

The solar D772 is a powerhouse but slower (368 torque and speed of .20 at 6v)
